Oh, another update on my kitty, though some of you already know. Darla let me pet her on Friday night as she ate. She let the kids pet her that afternoon, too. She hasn't come too near us since then, but it's progress. She is a tiny sweet thing. Oh, that is great news!!!! Your patience is paying off.

Thanks DT, I think so. Someday she will be fully integrated into our family. I look forward to it!

That's great that Darla is starting to allow more contact Apple! I don't know if this is something you want to try or not but I'll just put it out there. Years ago when I would occasionally go to a cat show, I saw a breeder holding one of her kitties and it was licking her fingers. I ask her about that. She explained that when handling her inexperienced cats in crowds or just handling a shy cat at home she would use canned Baby Food-beef or chicken. She would dip her finger in the jar and allow the kitty to lick it off while being stroked or handled, thus re-enforcing the feeling of pleasure in human contact. She said it worked like a charm, as they loved it and it was a rare treat. She never just fed it to them.

Oh what a great idea! Sort of the idea my friend told me to get her to come out in the first place...really smelly food, canned or even sardines (ICK). It seems to be working. The kids are having better luck without food though...Here's our girl upstairs!! The kids were able to lure her up using Pounce Kitty Treats, but she comes to them and rubs up against their legs without them using treats.

What a cute face. Her markings look a lot like my Princess.
Could be she trusts "small creatures" more than large ones. I've had cats in the past who would hiss at children because they were more accustomed to the presence of adults, but Darla might be the opposite.
Progress, slow but sure.

I was hoping we would get a picture of Darla soon, but this is sooner than I expected!!! She looks more curious than scared. You and your family are doing a great job with her.

What a pretty baby!! She looks like she's really studying you and the camera. But I don't think she looks too fightened. She's going to be a lovely kitty when she finally feels comfortable and confident with the whole family.

Isn't she though, Kit? Thanks ladies, I think she is a wonderful addition to our family. We waited a long time before we got a new kitty, and she is perfect for us I think.

Heheheh cute Kit!
Looks like the struggle I have with Duke every night. If I get up to use the ladies room he jumps on to of the blankets and he has VERY sharp claws and he knows how to use them if I want my blankets back

This is a great thread! Here are my two little maniacs, Schultz von Rathbone and Sophie Lugosi. Just this past Sunday, Schultz turned 5. Sophie is a year and a half with her next b-day on August 1st. The photo of Schultz was taken on his birthday. Yeah, we bought him a bow tie since he's now a distinguished gentledog. The other photo shows my two crazy dachshunds acting sane. If they turn out gigantic, I apologize in advance.

I have the same problem as Kit. This is the everyone except Chance kitty. Fortunately, only Java, Sailor and Chance sleep with me most nights.

Oh that means you get a whole corner of the bed to yourself? Lucky you! ;D But isn't it funny how we allow ourselves to be so uncomfortable rather than disturb out dear critters? My Brandy sleeps on the bed EVERY night. Princess goes here and there. She has to keep check out of the window to make sure no other critters are in the neighborhood, so sometimes she's in the living room on the chair so as to be able to look out front. But Brandy will get herself right alongside me, and if I move over a little, she moves over, and pretty soon I'm sleeping in about 6 inches--or so it seems--of mattress! What's really fun are the nights when both cats decide to be on the bed, one on either side of my legs.

I hope you didn't disturb him! Though I don't think I could have walked by without tickling his tummy! Fortunately, both of my cats appreciate a tummy rub. Does Duke or would he rabbit kick you with his back feet?

OMG! Duke is adorable in that shot!! And I love how the shadow stripes blend into his stripes, kinda gives him that jailbird look! I'm sorry but that belly needs to be rubbed! All bellies turned topside in my house get rubbed!! Our Hawkeye (Jack Russell) likes to drop and roll over just for a belly rub. After he's done groaning and grinning, he will grab your hand and arm with all four paws and his teeth to wrestle. We call him the Venus Hand Trap!! And DT I absolutely love that picture of your bed fellows. A friend of mine used to have a saying..."Warm and happy as a puppies nest". I think that says it all .

Look at this amazing picture. Our friend CAP from the Lost World board lives in a suburb of Minneapolis, with some woods nearby. She gets squirrels, raccoons, deer, and other critters coming to her patio for the food she puts out. She told me a couple of days ago that an albino squirrel had showed up, and I said, uh-huh, what have you been ingesting? So she took this with her camera phone.

That's a neat picture, Cal Gal. I swear I saw an albino squirrel once when I was a kid. It was at the top of a telephone pole, and, of course, no one else saw it so no one believed me. Where I go in canada for vacation in September they have black squirrles, which are quite striking also.

Does Duke or would he rabbit kick you with his back feet? Uhm I wouldn't suggest getting anywhere near his tummy when he lays like that. He is a venus fly trap in disguise! All four paws snap shut then he starts biting!

Duke has his adorable moments (usually while he's sleeping LOL) but NOT this one I took at 2 am today. Do you have any idea how hard it is to climb back into bed over THAT especially when you're still half asleep.

He had every right to be annoyed with you if you disturbed him! And then you had the gall to take a picture of him to commemorate the event? Shame on you, Pet! You should have been humbly begging his forgiveness.
