Kitty update...Darla has been venturing upstairs in the wee hours. Dora woke Wade early this morning chasing her around...we think she may have been trying to get up to the bedrooms. Poor soul. She has reverted so much to her wild ways, I'm feeling that we can't help her right now; we'll keep trying though.

She might need a quieter household.

She might need a quieter household. Well maybe, though she did come from a house that had 2 dogs and three other cats, and twin 7 year olds who were pretty rambunctious. I talked with a friend last night who had some good advice about feral cats that I am going to try. Cathy has had several feral cats that turned into...well, pussycats with her technique. She has years of experience with animals and is so patient with them, I think that it just might work. Worth a try, for sure. I don't know how I would catch poor Darla to get her back to the quieter household, either! She is too good at hiding.

Yes, patience is definitely required. Might be too soon to expect any results. If Darla is exploring, it means something. Dora is the dog, right? Any way to confine her so she couldn't chase the cat at night?

Apple this kitty experience has the all earmarks of a really good story. You should keep a diary of Dora's enty into your lives and chronicle her progress with your comments and feelings as she becomes one of the family. And have the kids help with it. It would be so sweet to have one day when you look back at this time.

Any way to confine her so she couldn't chase the cat at night? Dora is the dog, yes. She is harmless, just wants to play. I was very surprised that Darla was exploring. She hasn't attempted that since the first few days we had her here...and that was before I went to bed at night.

It sounds like maybe Darla is getting more confident. I don't know whether my little Chance (not so little anymore I guess) was born feral or never socialized when she was tiny. To this day, she prefers the company of the dogs over people. Maybe Dora will help Darla intergrate into the family.

We had a cat once when I was a kid that much preferred the dog's company to ours. She spent so much time in his little house with him, she smelled like a dog! ;D

The last foster home I lived in they raised white german shepards and they had over 20 cats living in the barn (and three in the house). the shepards loved the cats and guarded them like they were made of gold lol. If anyone other than us went near one of the cats they had to face the teeth and growl of one of the dogs lol.

However, I am pretty sure I've discovered the reason she comes upstairs...it's my broom! The previous owner said she LOVES brooms and when I see her she is sitting at the top of the stairs, next to mine. I was wondering what the heck my kids did to my broom the other day, straws are pulled from the binding and sticking out everywhere (it's brand new)...then it dawned on me that Allan had said she loved the broom. She's been playing with it. Silly kitty. Baby steps to success...I'm not worried about her much. We just have to bide our time with her.

I was at her house and joking told her I liked the pattern stamped into the shade's rim. She almost took it back to the store, then realized her cat had gone around the bottom edge and perferated it with his teeth.

I had a cat once that liked to bite the edge of boxes! I still have some of those boxes and when I see the ragged edges, I think of Punky!

Duke does that to the wooden miniblinds on one window in the living room. Only that one window none of the other 7 windows lol

Great pictures, Kit. It looks like your critters are enjoying the good life (and know it)! Max looks very happy in his chair. My Chomper is possessive of his chair, as well, and gives me a foul look when I turn him out of it so I can sit.

Looks like you have a house full, Kit! I have problems with just 2 cats ruling the roost. I can hardly sit on the couch without getting at least one, and often both, on my lap. Then they get EXTREMELY annoyed if I decided to get up. Brandy will often then just take my place on the couch.
Duke looks well fed, Pet. ;D

Oh Kit, your babies are beautiful!! I know what you mean about the furniture. The chairs and sofas in my house are the property of the four legged fur people and if you happen to be there when they want their spot, they just climb on top of you and flop!

Thats why I made a slip on book cover for mine out of brown packaging paper. Too many fur people accidents that could happen at anytime. You know they always find the best carpet or your sweater or that afghan you prize to deposit the grass they just chowed down when they were outside.

I had mine covered in a clear plastic cover at work. If you use your library and get to know the librarians, they might cover your book for you...or you could offer to pay them. I have Kessler and Cangey both covered.

Oh, another update on my kitty, though some of you already know. Darla let me pet her on Friday night as she ate. She let the kids pet her that afternoon, too. She hasn't come too near us since then, but it's progress. She is a tiny sweet thing.
