Ah, but he's also artistic by nature, and artists require their muses. We can be both as the situation calls for. Jes tryin' to keep the peace. Oh, I like Muses too. Clearly that's what Antoinette is. But Minions struck the right chord, I guess. Now we have to hope no one wants to be a follower of Count Manzeppi. We're running out of "M's"!

Hmm, I don't see why we couldn't have two types of Loveless adherants. The good doctor would probably approve of having both muses and minions. After all, he had both Antoinette (a definite muse) and Voltaire (a minion if there ever was one)! Then each person could chose which they felt they were more suited to call themselves. Maybe? [glow=red,2,300]Great Blazing Balls of St. Elmo's Fire! I just hit 500 messages![/glow] Works for me!! Great thinking, too. I'd have to be a muse, since I wouldn't be a minion, (to serve voluntarily): Being a muse would mean to me that I would amuse Loveless like Jim & Artie. And that would be involuntary amusement. Story of my life, anyways. But then again, I have those days I feel like misbehaving, so I might be a Loveless minion on one of those days. So watch out! I really like Loveless as a baddie, he's my fav ;D I've said it before (to someone, somewhere), if they had Miguelito on every episode, I wouldn't have complained. (I would just have gone crossed-eyes between watching him and Artie.)

I may even have a new Loveless story to post in a week or so in honor of the new group. (I don't know if that means I'm a muse or a minion!) {{{{Squeals}}}}} A Loveless story! What perfect timing with Michael Dunn's birthday next week! ;D I have a post of my own in mind for that day, but it's no where near as good as a story. You can be whichever you like as far as I'm concerned.

I think we're pretty equally divided between Muses and Minions (and are using both), but if anyone else wants to chime in about the name "Mavens"...fine with me.

Watch out!!! [/font][/move] Don't peeve our good Doctor; you know how he is when he gets peeved. Say sorry and bring some nice chocolate cremes. I'll make sure gets them. At least most of them. (I have to make sure they're fresh, don't I?) He'll share with me cause I'm his Muse. SO THERE!

You mean I have to pay an extortion fee to him and you too??!!! Where's Jim?...he's my buddy...James!! my man..(whisper...whisper..) Not to me - just him. It wouldn't do for his Main Muse to be greedy. Just devious! Whisper to Jim all you like. He may TRY to cross me, but I know him too well. (You'll see why in a hopefully soon-to-come fanfic).

Loveless is not looney. Just misunderstood and a little overexcited at times.

Yes, but those who work for him may be a bit out of it at times. Like poor Kitten, thinking he really cared about her.

Wanting to believe in someone, even when you're wrong, isn't necessarily looney - just deluded. Did you ever catch the wonderful expression Antoinette gives in TNOT Whirring Death after the "the best toys are the ones that go bang" line. Now it's clear that SHE thinks Priscilla is a complete ditz. I just love that moment.

Ace I knew what you meant. Loveless has his issues, but he isn't looney. If you were a fan of his you could become looney, like some who shall remain nameless become over Jim and Arte.

For one thing, the Priscilla we were talking about who is a ditz is the Girl Jim kisses in TNOT Whirring Death. (Jim and Artie both kiss real peanut-brains in that episode, but for shear brainlessness, Jim's Girl is waaaaaaay beyond Artie's Girl.)
As for me being busted about Uncle Artie -- hey, I'm just sitting here wearing my locket watch that has his pic inside...
(As I told my oldest-still-at-home, if her locket can have a pic of Matthew Gray Gubler in it, mine can have a pic of Ross Martin.)

Niecie...I think you got busted again...at least in Artie's case. ;D Snerk...actually I was busting myself too ;D I don't have a locket, but I do have a specially made necklace with his adorable face on it, along with 3 coffee mugs (one travel), a wall with a LOT of pics...what else? Hmmm...

No adult intervention at all? I tell you what, maybe that's the problem with the world now, we don't let kids fight their own battles. I'm guilty myself...Glad that all turned out well for you, Ace.

Hahaha, Ace. My locket is right here with Uncle Artie's handsome face in it (currently the same pic I have for my avatar.)
So what did you take? Hmm, s'pose you'll find out when it starts doing what it was designed to do. The budding Time Lord does have his uses, and one is that he invents stuff. (See, that's not just Time Lord DNA, that's a Gordon family trait too.)
So sorry about what's presently going to happen to whatever you have the 'locket' you stole from me in -- but you just gotta learn not to mess with Niecie!

One of my biggest complaints about season 1 is the number of times the female bad girl was forgiven, no matter what nasty deed she tried to do, as long as she was beautiful and perhaps did one itsy bitsy thing to "help." Case in point is Carma in Flaming Ghost. I rather like this episode except for the way she is forgiven. She tries to kill Jim twice and betrays Artie to Brown. Then right when Brown is talking about killing Jim, she whimpers, "is that necessary?" And all is forgiven. Conversely in that same episode we do have a rather strong (comparatively) female in Barbara. She tricks Brown and escapes. (Though I question her taste in preferring Artie over Jim. ) In season 2, in particular, every time the boys ended up with a couple of "ladies" on the train in the tag, the gals were simpering dimwit southern belles. In 3 and 4, the gals at least seemed to be older and perhaps a slight more intelligent. The two in the tag to Headless Woman appeared to have some interest in science. And so did the two in Avaricious Actuary. But those examples are few and far between. The two strongest women, Emma Valentine and Dr. Faustina, are bad to the core! (I just noticed what I wrote above. "female bad girl." Duh! Well, I'll leave it. )

That's the one beef I have about http://WWW...the women and girls, most of them, not all, are a bunch of dim witted, immature acting, helpless pieces of prettied up superficial flesh!!!! At least on this forum, I've read fanfic & other stories laying around here with dignified, intelligent, and strong character ladies!!! Look at Zoey, on Firefly, and Samantha Carter on SGSG1, just to name a few. Why couldn't the writers write in some bad **s women in some of these WWW stories?? Would it have really hurt them so much!! Well, Double-Edged Knife hada pretty strong female in Sheila Parnell and Ready-Made Corpse had Rose Murphy. Not bad ass, but at least they were able to stand up to adversity and be of some help to the boys. I'm afraid that's about the best we can hope for from a series from the 1960's and set in the 1870's.

The "women's movement" was just beginning in the 1960s... and the show did actually get off a few wisecracks about it, such as in the end to Howling Light. And of course, the boys were true to the 1870s idea of womanhood. Decorative. If she's pretty, that's all that matters. A few times Antoinette was sassy, when she flirted with Jim under the good doctor's nose--and to his annoyance.

Ok, sending budding Time Lord with his bigger-on-the-inside pockets full of gadgets (see, more of that Gordon family inventiveness PLUS the Time Lord stuff) to rescue Ace.

CalGal, Silver, et al., I agree with you on the irritating bimbos (good and bad). It's just the way women were treated on TV in those days--and that was one of the reasons we had a women's movement.

In Murderous Spring, Jim and Artie try to goad Kitten by talking about Loveless's affection for Antoinette. Artie says something like, "You know, I think Antoinette is the only thing Loveless cares about." Jim's response: "Well, she is very pretty." I can never decide whether he's saying that simply to further bother Kitten, because Kitten of course cannot match Antoinette in looks, or if he means Loveless loves Antoinette simply because she's pretty. Which would not be surprising given the era both of when the series takes place and when it was filmed.

I always felt sympathy for Kitten. She was the only one who seemed to have genuine empathy for Doctor Loveless. Even Antoinette sometimes flirted with Jim.
