I just looked at your link for that on Amazon and while scrolling down saw they had already released Laramie's final season in 2009. What--are they jumping around doing seasons out of order, first, last, 2nd, and eventually 3rd?? haha

Timeless, who is releasing Laramie, does a great service for fans of old TV westerns by producing the DVDs. However, they seem to have problems getting the releases out, especially on schedule (and in order). Release dates constantly shift. And it takes forever for Netflix to get them and make them available.
Not to mention sometimes Netflix has the DVDs for a while, then pulls them back! I dunno...

Well, it isn't a western...but The Invisible Man series (with Ross guest starring in the third ep) will be released next February. Nehemiah Persoff also appears as a guest star in a different ep! I got mine from one of those "copied off an old tape" type sellers and there are serious skips in one ep - but fortunately, Ross's is fine and that's the one that counts (for me)! It's kind of dreadful; and McCallum (who I VERY much like) looks like a disgruntled sheepdog, but Craig Stevens is a regular so that helps. Ross's episode is no great shakes - except for the fact that when he's being "carried" by the Invisible Man - it's Ross who's doing the pantomime of being dragged along. Just a wonderful bit of physical "business" that really impressed me. www.amazon.com/Invisible-Man-Complete-David-McCallum/dp/B005GYXN2M/ref=sr_1_4?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1326044083&sr=1-4

What--are they jumping around doing seasons out of order, first, last, 2nd, and eventually 3rd?? haha Dieter, actually what Laramie fans were told is that of all four seasons the second was hardest to find good masters of the eps... there were even rumors that first and second season masters were lost in a fire at Universal or whoever owns them now... They were asking fans to search their own collections and tapes for quality copies... but now it seems they did find the Universal masters... or so its indicated in the publicity from Timeless. LOL Also third and fourth seasons of Laramie were filmed in color, and that probably is why they released them ahead of the first two years, not thinking western fans would want black and white... Now they are learning their market is a lot more sophisticated than that...

Didn't they do the same thing with Wagon Train, releasing the first color season first?

The Laramie ep WAS on YouTube, but got pulled. Oh - and I finished watching the Invisible Man series - one more WWW alumnus to add - Charles Aidman! BTW and completely OT, Apple, I seem to remember you mentioning you like patter songs. Here's a link to THE definitive rendition (as far as I'm concerned) of "Modern Major General". broadwayworld.com/videoplay.php?colid=325423

You know I just realized I'm not much of a western watching person. I have no clue to what Laramie is unless I go look it up. Then I realized reading other threads that I'm really unaware of what westerns were shown in the past. I mean I know what Bonanza is I watched a few episodes other than that I guess I only watched WWW. Oh well my loss. Just can't contribute my opinions when it comes to other shows that I didn't know existed. I'm not much of a Western watcher either. I watched them when I was a kid, because that was half of TV programs in those days! Laramie was before my time though, so the only ep. I've seen is the one Ross appeared in. Goes to show that WWW is not really a Western. I mean, you don't have to have any appreciation of the genre to love this show. Actually, I have this fantasy about a show set in the eastern United States during that time, or even earlier, during colonial days. (The one that comes closest, I guess, would be Daniel Boone.) There are darn few shows about the east, except those set in New York or Washington. There is more to this side of the country than big cities! But that's something I enjoy about WWW too--not all the eps. take place in the west. Not that the settings look like the east... I guess it's the thought that counts.

I mean I know what Bonanza is I watched a few episodes other than that I guess I only watched WWW. Oh well my loss. Just can't contribute my opinions when it comes to other shows that I didn't know existed. Okay, Ace and snish, no worries. I know not everyone here is a western fan per se, I also know that some members here are genuine 'completists' and want to at least see a good, clear copy of guest star spots Ross, for this example, did on Laramie. And of course he was amazing in it. 'A Sound of Bells' was up on Youtube at one point but the quality of the copy was about as bad as you can get and stil have some idea what's going on on-screen... And Ross' character in this ep is absolutely the precussor of both his 'Lightnin' and 'Pancho' [JackoDiamonds] - a roguish bandito with a heart of gold, natch. Now as far as Laramie goes, it was a very special western for a lot of reasons, it was one of the first 'buddy show' westerns, at least that's the way I recall it. In the first two seasons its focus was the partnership and friendship between Slim [John Smith] and Jess [Robert Fuller] and the inside joke is that originally Robert was intended to play Slim and vice versa... which would probably not have worked.. In the third season a widow played by Spring Byington and an orphan boy played by Dennis HOlmes were introduced to the show and continued into the fourth and final season. That's another unusual thing about Laramie, there wasn't much of a "real" family, Slim's younger brother left after the first season and so did their friend and caretaker, Jonesy... But they still created a real family feeling and the bond between all the main characters was always as strong as any blood relatives could have had on other series, such as Bonanza. And the stories they told were cutting-edge at that time, challenging and thought provoking, but also a lot of fun and western action. What's my point? My point is Laramie is very much worth a glance if it comes up on Netflix, as well made television, western or otherwise. That's not what matters about Laramie, the western setting, what matters are the people involved and the stories they tell.

I remember being disappointed when Jonesy disappeared. I loved Hoagie Carmichael, as a singer, a songwriter, and an actor.
