For those of you who haven't heard, Cawley Entertainment Company and Retro Film Studios are beginning a new internet series that will be a faithful re-creation of the original television series. Like our "Star Trek" series (www.startreknewvoyages.com), the episodes will be free to watch on the internet and will be made by all volunteers - industry pros working side by side with simple fans. The fall shoot for our first episode, "The Night of the Gold Spikes", begins in just a few weeks and we still have room for a few more volunteers - with a chance to be on camera besides! If you want to join our "family" for some steampunk fun Nov 1- 10, drop me an email at: patty.retrofilms@gmail.com ! There is currently only a place holder at: www.backtothewildwildwest.com but you can see a few photos of pre-production work on our FaceBook page: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.192044207505021.50639.185522881490487&type=3

Welcome pattyw--Been looking forward to James Cawley's new version of WWW for quite a while now!! We've heard all about it for over a year now I's say. He goes as Wanderer Jim on this board and especially the other WWW board to keep us informed as on Facebook too. This is the first I've heard the episode title "Night of the Gold Spikes" though. Sounds great!!
Thanks for the info! Where is the show filming at in November? Keep us informed--Can't wait to hear more!

Hi Dieter!
Yes, I knew J was here... he's just super busy right now with everything going on!
It's filming in Ticonderoga, New York: using the recreation of John Hancock's home as the primary "set" location and features a well-known villian (but not the one you expect!)

Ticonderoga, NY (beautiful area) is just a wee bit too far for us West Coasters, but I'm looking forward to the episode and wish all of you the best of luck.

Same here---I live in So. Cal. so New York is unfortunately a bit out of the way for me too. Now if it were being filmed at CBS Studio Center or nearby like the original was, I'd volunteer right away. ;D

Even central Texas is too far, but my best thoughts go to everyone taking part. Really looking forward to it - and may it have many episodes!

Yeah--like another 104 episodes like the original, especially if it's a faithful re-creation. I wonder how intense the fight scenes are going to be??? Be great if RC was somehow involved in this too.

I tell you something I do volunteer for - if they find themselves needing scripts, I'll do my best to be one of their writers! I'm a prose writer by preference, but I do know how to write scripts (and if they thought they could use me I'd probably to out and take a class). Guess I'd better look into finishing that Lost World script so I have an example to show!

Patty, you are tempting me! But Ticonderoga is about a 7-hour drive for me so it would be fairly crazy. And I would have to explain this to my husband. Hmmm....

It's about a 5 hour drive for me - which I'd do if I had a co-pilot. I drive very well, but I don't enjoy it.
(I had the electrical system on a previous car cut out on me without warning while I was on going 70 on a fast interstate. I got to the shoulder safely, but couldn't remember how. I'm sure sheer adrenalin and pure instinct took over.)

I'm looking at my work schedule, and I may be able to swing a long weekend, but no more than that.
I don't mind driving--except that I don't want to drive into NYC. I'm not too big on city traffic.
Anyway, I'm going to run it by my husband before I email pattyw. (Not that I think he would object, but because it seems like the courteous thing to do.) I have always wanted to visit a film set and see how it's done!

You gals should really make an effort to go, if at all possible. You may never get another chance. And heck, hubbies and kids might be able to be extras too!

My husband as an extra in a fan film of WWW! Thanks, CalGal, the visual is priceless. His work schedule won't permit, though. Mine, on the other hand...

Thanks to everyone who sent emails! You guys are an awesome group! Can't wait to get going on this..it's going to be a lot of fun!!
I've secured lodging for cast and crew at only $150 a week or $50 a night. (They LOVE us in Ti!) It's within walking distance to both the set and every restaurant in town (and James' house, but I didn't tell you that!) ... and we'll all be staying there (the motel is actually staying open just for us) so it IS going to be fun!
We've got two "suites" that have full kitchens that will be available for folks who want to cook - though you may have to share with the person paying for the room!
The Amtrak train goes right into Ti, and we can usually provide transportation to and from the airports. (Albany, NY or Burlington, VT)
Our director is Mark Burchett, who joined us for a Star Trek episode earlier this year, and he is super skilled, relaxed, and fun to work with. Because we are all volunteer and people are coming and going during the shoot, we are not an industry "super tight" set - but that's because this is a hobby and if we're not having fun there is no reason to be doing it to begin with! By "not super tight" I mean you may see actors stringing cables or holding mics, makeup people painting sets, and folks hanging out eating pizza and talking while we're waiting for paint to dry or the camera to arrive from the airport. So you can be sure you will go home with a new "family" and friends, and have had the opportunity to learn from any department you are interested in learning about.
And there will most definitely be a chance to be an extra! The episode begins with a flashback to 1865 and then takes place in 1869 - but it's not a "prequel". It's just an episode that takes place before any "dated" episode we've seen before. (Dates noted in the series range from 1870 to 1875)
It's currently called "The Night of the Golden Spikes" and is co-written by James Cawley himself.
Silver... we can always use script submissions! Email me after the shoot and I'll give you the details on how to submit!
If someone wants to post the info on needed volunteers on the other WWW forum, please do so. I seem to have registered last year but can't log in .. and it won't let me re-register with a diff email address! :-(

Silver... we can always use script submissions! Email me after the shoot and I'll give you the details on how to submit! Whoa! I figured there'd be too many writers wanting in on the project, if anything. Maybe I should start by turning Cold Blue Light into a script, since I notice that for some reason this forum voted that fairly high up on stories they'd like to see produced. Good thing Patty doesn't want to deal with this until after the shoot. Must ... finish ... something ... before ... adding ... new ... project!

Sounds like the current script is already finished and ready to shoot is why. Any new script you submit is open for WWW episode 2 and beyond apparently, so get busy, Silver. ;D
Sounds awesome!!! Wish I were there!!!!!
Would be great to get you on other forum too, Patty--Just email Kris the admin over there. That's the easiest way.

Thanks, Dieter, I got that, actually. I was just expressing my happiness at the fact. It means I don't need to worry about committing to another project right now, as I've got waaaaaaaaaaaay to many irons in the fire as it is.

What if they're doing a new episode every week---like they do on network TV shows? (I really kinda hope so!!) Then scripts gotta be ready to roll soon. Actually--Patty would know. How often are episodes planned to be filmed?

Alas, since this is a volunteer effort, there are very few of us that can afford to take off the time to do an episode a week. (James and I, namely! LOL Though we'd LOVE to produce an episode a week, I'm pretty sure James and I couldn't pull that off alone!) It's likely that (like our Trek series) we'll be doing 1-2 episodes a year.

That's still quite acceptable, Patty. Considering a real ep of WWW hasn't been made in 42 years now. The way movie series go, sequels get done every year or two like all the Pirates, Fast & Furious, and new Hangovers, etc. One or two would be more than welcome every year compared with what we usually get stuck with every Friday when new mostly lame movies hit the theaters. ;D

Yes, sir, Dieter, *SALUTES* I will get busy on a script asap. (it's the p that's the problem)

After much dithering, it's finally set: Diva and I are going to the film shoot this weekend! I understand there are restrictions on posting photos from the set, but there will be stories to tell--possibly live bulletins if I can get Internet access, 'cause I'm taking my laptop. We expect to be part of a crowd scene.
And now I have to go to the dentist, get my car's oil changed, fill up with gas, charge up the camera battery and the cell phone... and find a plumber. Stay tuned!
