Beautiful poem. The photograph for the background and the red, white, and blue border all fit perfectly.

First CalGal thanks for the beautiful poem and gorgeous artwork. I have no art to offer on this special day but I do have two poems that were written by others to celebrate, mourn and honor those who had given their lives And I can note that Memorial Day began soon after the War Between the States/American Civil War, to honor the men fallen in that conflict.
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft starlight at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.
written in 1932 by Mary Frye, to comfort a refugee from Europe whose mother passed away.
In the rising of the sun
And its going down
We remember them
In the blowing of the wind
And in the chill of winter
We remember them
In the blueness of the sky
And in the warmth of the summer
We remember them
In the rustling of the leaves
And the beauty of the autumn
We remember them
When we are lost
And sick at heart
We remember them
When we have joys
We yearn to share
We remember them
So long as we live
They too shall live
For we remember them
I've seen two 'stories around this second poem 'Litany of Remembrance'. One story says it was written after 9/11/2001. The other says it was originally part of a Jewish mourning ritual. I think the words are so powerful that the origins don't necessarily matter.
G-d bless all the men and women who have given their lives for our country, and G-d continue to bless all those women and men who put their lives on the line for our country, today.

More beautiful poetry. I've heard the first, somewhere, but I don't think I've ever heard the second.
