The PBS series "Pioneers of Television" starts tonight, 8 pm here, with an episode celebrating Sci-fi. Next week (Jan. 25) will be the one on Westerns, including WWW. Here's what it says on my local PBS channel's site:
Known everywhere as the quintessential American cultural identity, Westerns filled small screens across the country night after night and were some of the most successful television shows in history. Fess Parker's portrayal of Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett channeled the bravery, independence, honesty and rugged individualism of a young nation - and made Walt Disney enough money to build an empire. Westerns also gave viewers James Garner, who starred in the giant television hit "Maverick," where he developed the reluctant hero character that would cement his successful TV and film career. Parker and Garner tell their stories, and Linda Evans recalls how two strong female characters emerged with her onscreen interaction with Barbara Stanwyck in "The Big Valley." This episode also examines the success of Robert Conrad in "The Wild Wild West," the popularity of "Bonanza" and the creation of the classic series "Gunsmoke" with James Arness -one of the longest-running television series of all time.
*** It's going to be repeated 2-3 times during the week on my channel, but I'm going to try to watch tonight (and next week). Later they will look at sitcoms, police dramas, late night shows.

I missed the beginning of last night's episode since I worked until 8:15. Hopefully next week I can get Wade to record it for me. He wasn't home to do that for me last night. James Garner will be on next week too

Lots of guest stars appeared in both WWW and ST. They were on the air during the same years, so it makes sense that certain people were available at the time, such as Michael Dunn and Kathie Browne, both of whom were in episodes I watched on DVD yesterday.
I had to miss NCIS last night in order to watch the PBS show, but I'll catch it online. As far as I know, not many PBS shows are online--at least not as soon as those from other networks!

Thanks, Kelly, but I did see Pioneers of TV last night. And I watched NCIS online. So I'm up to date. I think next week's NCIS is a rerun so it won't be a problem!
