one again, inspired by Luckyladybug I decided this subforum was the better place to ask these few questions of our friendly forum members: [phrased in classic 1950s style] : Are you now or have you ever been a fan of the classic courtroom drama 'Perry Mason'? If you are or you have been, please do the kindness of answering the following. If not, no worries. You can catch up watching Perry on both ME television and Hallmark movie channels. Have you watched PM in syndication? Did you watch it on the network? [ are you REALLY THAT OLD? LOL] Did you watch the subsequent made for tv Mason movies? If so, did you like, dislike, love or loathe them? Do you have favorites in the cast? Have you memorized the titles of your favorite eps? Do you still love the theme music? Do you prefer Tragg to Andy or Andy to Steve? Do you have guest stars on Mason you recognize on other shows? Who should have been a guest star on Mason but wasn't? And lastly: Would you be actively interested in being part of a meeting place for Perry Mason fans... such as [most easily arranged] a Yahoo group, or if we have more technically skilled fans joining in, a forum? If your answer to the last question is yes, email or PM me and we'll 'convene' about it, after a few hours 'recess'...[ cause I'm always a bit tired on Mondays after shopping on Saturday, laundry on Sunday, and getting the trash out Monday morning. ] court adjourned

forum's are easy to make on proboards. The hard part is the artwork! I don't have any because i don't know how to do it, nor do I have anyone on my board that knows how to do it. Doesn't matter, we have good discussions! As for Perry Mason, I like Tragg, Ross should have been a guest star, yes I've seen some really great actors and actresses on PM that I've seen elsewhere. Not sure if I watched the movies or not... Love Perry, Della, and Paul so much. Paul may be my favorite character.

Yes, I watched Perry Mason on the network. My favorite was Paul Drake (William Hopper, son of gossip columnist, Hedda Hopper and actor DeWolf Hopper who was most famous for reciting Casey at the Bat). I think I watched only the first few years. After a while it became redundant, like most shows that stay on the air too long. No, I wouldn't be interested in joining a board or anything. Not that big a fan.

Are you now or have you ever been a fan of the classic courtroom drama 'Perry Mason'?
Yep! I think I first saw it when I was around high school age. I remember sitting and doing my homework while Mom and Dad watched reruns. After a while I often just pretended to be reading because I really wanted to watch!
I was deeply intrigued by Perry and Hamilton before too long, because despite their clashes in court, I kept seeing these awesome scenes out of court where they seemed to be on friendly terms. And since I have always adored friendships, that pulled me right in. I watched religiously for some time and don't remember why I stopped for the most part. I still loved the characters and enjoyed hearing the show coming on.
In the summer of 2011 I looked up Simon Oakland's guest-spots on Perry and remembered why I loved the series. I fell in love with it all over again, only harder, enough to even start making fanworks. I even made a Hamilton Burger plushie (using one of those pre-sewn dolls at JoAnn's).
If you are or you have been, please do the kindness of answering the following. If not, no worries. You can catch up watching Perry on both ME television and Hallmark movie channels.
Only problem with Hallmark is that the episodes are chopped up worse there than anywhere else. Most stations, such as Me, run episodes 45 to 47 minutes minus commercials. Hallmark's barely run 43! And when thinking of how season 1 episodes usually ran 52 or occasionally 53 minutes ... the horror.
Have you watched PM in syndication?
Yep, on my local station for years and just recently on MeTV too! They seem to have the same prints.
Did you watch it on the network? [ are you REALLY THAT OLD? LOL]
Nope, I'm not that old. LOL.
Did you watch the subsequent made for tv Mason movies? If so, did you like, dislike, love or loathe them?
I have not got the strength to watch them yet. I have the first one on the 50th Anniversary DVD set, but I haven't had enough interest to watch it. I love Perry and Della, but they're not my most favorites. None of my most favorites are there except Richard Anderson, and he didn't play Steve. (I heard he played a bad guy. And I just haven't been in the mood to see him play a bad guy on something Perry-related when he always played good guys there before. I'll get around to it eventually.)
I did see a clip or two from a later movie as part of an interview with Raymond Burr I was watching, and I did honestly like what I saw. But I just don't know that I'd have much interest in watching a whole string of those movies with only two characters from the series present.
Do you have favorites in the cast?
Hamilton Burger, Lieutenant Anderson, Lieutenant Drumm, Lieutenant Tragg ... and Deputy D.A. Sampson (and if you know who he is, congratulations!)
Have you memorized the titles of your favorite eps?
Yep, and watched repeatedly whenever possible!
Do you still love the theme music?
Oh yes. Classic and iconic!
Do you prefer Tragg to Andy or Andy to Steve?
Ooooh, tough call. I've been musing a lot on their similarities and differences and ended up realizing that by the time Steve came around, the writers had finally decided that the poor police characters really shouldn't be made fools of. It's really hard to picture Perry making Steve look foolish, as he did repeatedly to Tragg and even occasionally to Andy. But while Steve was hard-boiled on the job, off-duty he was undoubtedly the most friendly to Perry and company. Paul certainly seemed to like chumming with him. Curiously enough, even though Andy is the one mainly remembered for being friendly, he never so much as had lunch with them once.
I adore Tragg's falsely friendly/borderline sarcastic comments. They're priceless and hilarious. I love Andy for his amiable and easy-going nature, and for the few times we saw more of his personality than just the businesslike cop holding people at arm's length. (The Hateful Hero episode, with his cousin Jimmy, is just a classic.) And I love Steve for his seriousness as well as his friendships with Paul and the rest.
I usually list Andy as my most favorite, largely because of The Hateful Hero episode, and then Steve comes in second place, but I really love them all so dearly.
Do you have guest stars on Mason you recognize on other shows?
Yessss. Many, many. It's fun watching them start to turn up everywhere, once I've become familiar with them on Perry!
There are even those now and then that I've really started crushing on, whom I saw first on Perry both recently and years ago.
Who should have been a guest star on Mason but wasn't?
Ross Martin. It would have been doubly fun if he and Robert Conrad had been there together.
I had a whole list of guest-stars who should have been, but they've all flown out of my mind except for those two. Oh, and Darren McGavin. And I think Martin Milner was on the list, too. If he wasn't, he should have been. And Broderick Crawford and Lloyd Bridges....
And lastly: Would you be actively interested in being part of a meeting place for Perry Mason fans... such as [most easily arranged] a Yahoo group, or if we have more technically skilled fans joining in, a forum?
Yes! I could probably make a pretty banner or two, if we went for a forum. I don't know if I could get the thing posted or not, though, unless the forum gave me good directions for it. I've run blogs, Livejournal.com communities, and Yahoo Groups, but I've never run/helped run a forum.
