Welcome to So Cal, Red!! You ended up in a different city! No San Marino after all, huh? Well if you're still in Pasadena on New Year's Eve/New Years Day, you can watch the Rose Parade and go to the Rose Bowl IN PERSON this year!! I've done it and it's pretty WILD! ;D Enjoy the sun!!!

Welcome to the Golden State, Red. I'm afraid you're far, far from me. Maybe So Cal can work up a nice little EQ for you to experience.

Thanks everyone! yes, I can't wait to see the Civil War exhibit! (Have to go on a Sat when I'm not working!) Currently I'm scanning books dating to the 1700s written by Newton and Euler (to name some famous ones ) It's breathtaking to be able to handle books that old! Well I'm finally pretty settled down in Pasadena, just a 20min drive to work in San Marino. I finally have internet at the townhouse (posting on my tiny phone screen was difficult!) I would love to see Devils Punch Bowl!! So those are the San Gabriel Mountains I see driving down the street?? I can't wait for the weekends to do all the tourist stuff

So Cal actually kind of frightens me... Is there ANY food store not as creepy and ghetto as Food For Less yet not as expensive as Whole Foods or Vons? !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (also note that I refuse to buy fresh veggies and meat at the 99 cent store) Um Artie? Jim? ? Where ARE you?!?!?!?!

Aw, poor Red! Maybe you just live in a bad area? Is there an Aldi around? They have great fresh veg, though it doesn't always last a whole week, and their dairy (cheese, etc) is terrific!

Try Safeway and get one of their rewards cards, sign up to put their coupons and sales on the card, and check their web site every week. I saved 30% on my groceries yesterday. For one thing I got a quart of half & half that's usually $2.49 for $1.48 as a "personalized price."
Raley's/Nob Hill is nice, although I don't shop there as often.
My niece likes a story called Gelson's (or something like that), but I think it's a slightly upscale store.
You're just going to have to shop around and check out a few, probably.

It's a bit of an interesting neighborhood... I'm on the edge of Pasadena with San Marino less than 20min away. Main shopping roads are Colorado Blvd and Lake Ave, that much I have learned! So far Jim & Artie are keeping me company when my coworker goes to visit her family
