Usually if I get to have WWW dreams I am fortunate enough that Artie is the major factor. Last night and the night before however, I was dreaming that Jim was searching for Artie. Jim was not panicked nor distraught, just a bit worried looking and concerned. He was silent and was just looking, searching for Artie... what the heck says this Angel Not a bad thing, dreaming of Jim West, but where the heck was Artie the last two nights? Now I realize I was watching 1st season eps lately which are usually more Jim-centric but there was a good deal of Artie in Glowing Corpse last night and I was reading fanfic with lots of Artie... sooo... where's Artie

Sheesh, I'd settle for dreaming about Jim. I mean, last night I dreamed that my cat had worms! Yuck!

Funny, I never seem to dream about the actual characters of www. DAYdreams are another matter entirely. Great way to get through the commute.
I dream about Ross occasionally. But never as a character - always as himself. I've even dreamed about Michael Dunn. All in a NY setting. Maybe that's why I don't dream about RC - can't picture him in NY.
Said with a Noo Yawker's humor: anything west of the Hudson is Indian territory - especially Joisey!

I'm SURE that other areas of the country are terrific as well. It's just that I'm a born and bred city (well, suburb) gal. I need the energy; the drive; the pace. While visiting a friend in Richmond, VA, once, she commented, "You don't know the meaning of the word 'mosey', do you?"
The only other place I'd consider living (and even that, not permanently) is London. LOVE the UK!
I also like Boston and San Francisco (but not so much LA). I haven't been to the West Coast since the mid 70's though, so maybe it's changed. Not crazy about Florida, either. Warm climates do not agree with me.
Ah well, to each their own. You know, as much as I like Ross, I was always a little miffed that he "deserted" NY for LA. Until I read a quote: "I want to come back to Broadway so bad I can taste it." All's forgiven. Had he not had the heart attack, I WOULD have met him in the fall of '81. One of my biggest regrets!
And I dream of him in various theatrical roles all the time. He'd have been a Tony winner for sure! Sigh...

I haven't been remembering much about my dreams lately. All I remember about last night is that mashed potatoes were involved.
Don't tell Pet, but I know I dreamed about Peter McCauley the other night. ;D

maybe Jim is looking for Artie because I am too But Artie is obviously not in my head if Jim's been looking for him for 2 nights hmmmm Jim! I think Pet kidnapped Artie and is holding him captive in her latest fanfic ;D I never dream of any of the real actors, I just dream of the characters. Probably because the characters are fictional and therefore are considered "available" by my mind

Probably because the characters are fictional and therefore are considered "available" by my mind Well, one good thing about fanfics - there's plenty of our heroes (and "alternate realities") to share. Pet's Artie may not be *exactly* my Artie (if only for the simple reason that he's MY Artie). MY Miguelito (when I finally write him) will be different from the standard version. And all of that is a good thing. As for dreaming of the real actors, when I dream of Ross, it isn't especially in a romantic manner. It's more the sort of friendly fondness I experience with a LOT of theatrical actors. LOTS of hugs (actors are a very huggy bunch), lots of chatting, pretty regular emails, an occasional dinner. Just plain warm and fuzzies. An extended "family" if you will. And many have referred to me as such - which is wonderful; I have NO family (since my Mom passed 9 years and 3 weeks ago). And that's one of the reasons theatre means the world to me and why it KILLS me that I never got to see Ross on stage. But I DID see him in "The Dresser"- the other night in my dreams. He came over to my house to pick me (and my Mom...sigh!) up to take us to the theatre. First I remember thinking that the Gershwin Theatre was waaaay too big for this rather intimate play (its current RL tenant is "Wicked"). Then I remember assuming Ross would be playing "Sir" and that his makeup job made him totally unrecognizable; but when I turned around at a movement from stage left, he was "Norman". (Think Jonathan Ashley Kingston.) He stole a moment to give me a quick wink at my surprise and then proceeded to be BRILLIANT - and heartbreaking. Must go back and watch the movie with Albert Finney and Tom Courtney (which I last saw in early 2011). Dunno why it surfaced in my dream, but I'm not complaining.

heeeeey now, I didn't necessarily mean romantic now see, us ordinary folk who are typically in RL shy, just can't cope with celebrities! When my best friend and I saw the band The Frames in NYC, the fellow who plays the fiddle was having a smoke outside after the show. I spotted him and started hitting my best friend's shoulder cause I couldn't speak We went up to him and she proceeded to do the talking "you know, you're the reason why she came" (which my response was a facial expression of betrayal and shock and I promptly smacked her shoulder HARD which drew a shocked expression from handsome fiddle player ) (the rest of the story goes, he signed our tickets and then we only had a few minutes so we RAN a block, stopped looked at each other, squealed and then RAN back to the train and just made our train and collapsed in our seats absolutely breathless ) But I think Antoinette Bower is the only actress I actually had the guts to hold a conversation with Them famous types are completely unavailable to me, even for talking (probably why I wouldn't survive if I ever got to go to one of the WWW shoots by J.Cawley and crew!)

I kind of felt that way before I met the actors and writers of The Lost World. They put us at ease almost at once, and we felt like long-time friends in no time. We met with them 4 times at the cons. Especially Judy & Gar Reeves-Stevens. I don't keep in touch with them as much as I used to but we still email from time to time. Nice folks and fellow cat lovers.

I'm an ordinary folk, too. Very. "Celebrity" and "Famous Types" are a relative term to me. I simply wind up chatting with folk whose work I genuinely like. I'd pass right by someone like, say, Brad Pitt or George Clooney for someone whose work I admire. Hugh Jackman is another matter - and more for the fact that he is *tireless* in raising funds for my favorite charity - Broadway Cares. He brought in nearly $2 mil during the last campaign! I had a very similar experience with my best friend (gone now 21 years) and Yul Brynner. She found out where he was rehearsing a show and dragged me over to wait. When he arrived (with not another soul in sight), she completely froze. Couldn't move; couldn't talk. I wound up chatting with Mr. Brynner for 15 minutes (and got autographs for the both of us) - he must have thought *I* was his biggest fan. She did the same to me when we met David McCallum (of whom I AM a big fan). LOL! The only person I *nearly* froze in front of was Stephen Sondheim (musical genius). But I recovered, got the autograph, and even walked with him up the block (we WERE headed in the same direction). Once we went our separate ways - THEN I got near palpitations! And if I've met some "recognizable" names (and I have), the majority of my favorite actors will never be heard of outside the NY theatre community. But that's okay; they're stars to me. And you would NOT freeze in front of James and company. They'd be too busy hugging you, fussing over you, and putting you at ease. TERRIFIC people. And stars! ;D

I have a hard time opening up to anyone Ol' Aunt Maud here had to ply me with a champagne and cake picnic in Greenwich (UK) to get me to open up and relax (I bet now she wishes she had left me at the hotel where she found me ) Heh, when my company (less than 50 employees, small, privately owned company) got a new vice-prez, it took him several months to get me to be comfortable and not call him "Sir" "Sir is my father. I am Larry" Now I just call him "Boss" ;D Well, hopefully in tonight's dreams Jim will finally find Artie (otherwise if I'm less lucky but still somewhat lucky, I'll dream of crocheting the cabled "berry tree" square I've been working on instead of dreaming about scanning books ) (and yes, the silliness is still caused by cold meds but doing a little better today finally!)

Greenwich is lovely; but Hampton Court is my favorite locale in the UK. Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight and Leeds Castle are the two runners-up. Though Castle Howard is pretty darn impressive as well.
And I haven't "sirred" for years. But then again, I'm older than most of the "boss" types now. Oh well...
I KNOW what it is to be shy. I spent up to age 16 barely being able to speak in front of more than two people. However, I owe the change to a more outgoing prsonality entirely to my desperation to meet my (teenage) crush, Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins of Dark Shadows).
They filmed the show in NY and I steeled myself to at least stand in awe outside the studio. I was so nervous, that I dropped my pocketbook right in front of him and the contents rolled out. Ever the quintessential gentleman, Jonathan picked them up and put them in my hands. Which were shaking so badly, I dropped them again. He picked them up again. I managed to hold onto a few items, but the rest...
As Jonathan bent for the THIRD time, I finally found my voice and said "Just LEAVE them. I'll get them later. It doesn't matter." He laughed and I relaxed immediately. Very little has fazed me since! so thank you, Jonathan Frid!

Said with a Noo Yawker's humor: anything west of the Hudson is Indian territory - especially Joisey! Diva, I have to admit, I got a chuckle out of it when we were driving up north. When we got to the mountainous stretch of highway where there is no sign of civilization except the highway itself, you seemed a little nervous! I know you were thinking "Where the hell are we! Does she know where we're going?" ;D Re meeting celebrities, I have failed miserably on my few attempts. At the '96 AG I sat at a table with Mala Powers for I don't know how long and just froze. Could not think of a darned thing to say, even though she was friendly and kind. What a wasted opportunity. But, Red, James Cawley doesn't come across as a celebrity at all, neither does Paul Sieber. Both made a point of talking to Diva and me several times in just an ordinary way--they're fans too. After that I felt like I could talk to either of them, unless they were busy. If you hung around the set for a few hours, you would feel comfortable there. You could always work your way up by talking to the crew members, or letting them talk to you. They're just ordinary folks in T-shirts and jeans.

I felt like we were in the middle of the wilderness - and I am SO not the wilderness type. Though compared to Manhattanites, I'm downright rural. I get stunned looks when I mention I mow my own lawn! And, Snish, do keep in mind when John Cullum next does a NY show, if you can come down, you'll get a personal intro. You'll have no trouble talking to him - he's very down to earth. Though I somewhat disagree that James and Paul talked to us in an ordinary way - rather, they went out of their way to make us feel like WE were extraordinary for just showing up. Remember us "hiding" in the back room corner for fear of disturbing anyone? LOL! THAT'S never gonna happen again! Wanna go back, wanna go back. When oh WHEN is the next shoot?

Hmm, it dawns on me, Nydiva, that while for you, it's actors, for me, it's authors. I once talked for quite some time with Catherine Crook -- I was hoping to talk to her husband, L. Sprague de Camp, but he was busy (and gentlemanly) chatting with another fan. Both authors were just as nice as could be.
And then there's 'Uncle Andy' -- Andrew J. Offutt. I was the crazy girl who threw the money into his hat -- and later at the same con, a friend and I danced the troika with him.

I think I agree with you, Niecie. While there are certainly actors of both genders I wouldn't mind meeting and having coffee or a glass of wine with, I believe I would enjoy myself more with authors. I know I've enjoyed the relationship with Judy and Gar. I once corresponded with a lady who wrote a "cozy" mystery series that took place in the region I lived in PA, but she retired and started traveling, and we kind of lost touch.
One writer I would LOVE to meet is Steve Hockensmith. I've had a couple of email exchanges with him, but nothing deep or consistent.

Well, meeting those authors was entirely a matter of opportunity (much as with Nydiva, I believe). I was attending science fiction conventions at which the authors were guests of honor. Lovely weekends!
And now I live out in the boonies and meet no one famous. C'est la vie!

Diva, you felt like we were in the wilderness because... we were! (Well, except for the 4-lane highway.) The Adirondack Park, at 6 million acres, is the largest park in the Lower 48. Thanks for renewing the invite to meet John Cullum, I'll keep it in mind. I'm sure it would be great fun--although I have to weigh that against the aggravation of driving to Queens. If the Town Mouse feels lost in the country, this Country Mouse feels totally intimidated in the city.

After all, without authors to write, there'd be no actors to portray the stories. But one more or less has to go to a convention or book signing - more of a occasional event. With theatre, there's always someone floating around in a show - or someone to bump into on the subway. There are plenty of people in all fields to admire. Some folks are big baseball fans, some basketball, football, soccer, whatever. While I don't go in for sports myself, I can understand it appeals to a wide range of people. A MUCH wider range than theatre. Chacun a son gout!

Well, driving into Queens isn't so bad really, but we'd be taking the bus and subway into Manhattan. I wouldn't recommend your driving in Manhattan; I wouldn't recommend ME driving in Manhattan! And forget about parking! It's a nightmare (at least this sort of brings the topic back to dreams )- and horrendously expensive.

James asked me to call him a few months back, and I was shaking when I called...I felt like a complete idiot, too, not really able to answer his questions. Afterward I emailed him and apologized for my being star struck. He thanked me for the compliment...but I seriously was star struck! I hope to get to a shoot so that I can meet him in person

Speaking of WWW shoots... last night I dreamed I was at one! (Eatcher heart out, Diva! ;D) And they wanted me to be in a scene. It was already night, so it looked like it would be late indeed before we were done, so I had to go ask my husband if he would be willing to stay and then drive me home. (In the dream it was only about an hour and a half to the shoot--now there's wishful thinking for you.) Then I woke up. When I went back to sleep, I dreamed some more! I sat down to have my makeup done, but the makeup man wandered away, and the director asked me to follow him, so I went to the set. He was a foreign fellow and I couldn't understand what he was saying. I picked up a script, but I didn't know which part I was playing! There were lots of people in the room, but no one could tell me anything. So... I guess I know what I'm anxious about.
