I can drink, but only sometimes. Trouble is, I can't predict when those times are.
Very often, after the second or third sip (and I do mean sip), my face will burn with an uncomfortable dry heat and I get red and blotchy. It's just not worth the attempt.
Since I'd rather eat than drink my calories anyway, my tippling is extremely rare. The only drinks I ever do are Bailey's, Mimosas, or sherry (and that only if I'm trying to be sociable and they don't have Bailey's).
Oddly enough, I have a shelf filled with liqueurs because I BAKE with them! I.e., orange, raspberry or chocolate liqueur in some cookies, rum in bananna bread, and my famous rumballs. ;D

My late husband once got me some cooking wine to try -- I couldn't be in the kitchen with it.

OMG! Someone who quoted a Broadway show!!! I've definitely come to the right forum! Thanks to Niecie for pointing the way. ;D I know Les Miz well; a friend played Thenardier during the last few years of the Broadway run. I'm a Bailey's gal myself. Especially the mint chocolate version. Reminds me of Artie - yummy as chocolate and very cool! OOoooooh! Bailey's *Spoken like a zombie looking for BRAINS* Love that Bailey's. I haven't tried any of the new flavors, but mint chocolate is first on my list. If wanted to interact with a bunch of highly intelligent, very nice people with a broad spectrum of tastes and enthusiasms, but all true blue fans of the Wild Wild West, then yes, you definitely came to the right forum. And WELCOME to our happy home. Would you consider yourself one of Jim's Jewels or one of Artie's Angels? Have you heard of the Les Miz newsletter that ran for about 10 years, called The Barricade? The mint chocolate is to die for. Then again, the words "mint" when coupled with "chocolate" generally put me in a contented coma. The caramel Bailey's is nice; but give me anything with mint. An Artie's Angel all the way. I'm not sure who the other guy you mentioned is! Can we have a third category for "the Doctor's Damsels"? If so, I belong there as well. I never heard of that newsletter for Les Miz, but I got all my theatre gossip from hanging round the stage door and chatting with my buddy in the cast. He's now in an off-Broadway show called "The Fartiste". *Snerk* Show biz!

My late husband once got me some cooking wine to try -- I couldn't be in the kitchen with it. Cooking wine is *hideous*. That stuff is not meant to be drinkable and shouldn't be used in cooking either! The wine you use to cook with should be the wine you'd drink. I hate the taste of wine, but do cook with it. I was gagging from the smell when I made a beef bourginion, but once the alcohol cooked out, it was scrumptious. You must try sauteeing muchrooms in Madeira (or Marsala). Put just enough to cover the bottom of a sautee pan and then cook on medium till all the liquid has evaporated. Use it as a filling for omelets (with a sprinkle of Parm). Divine. That's gonna be my lunch today.

It wasn't sherry, it was whiskey. That was the big joke among the bar customers. Yikes! In that case I go back to my original estimation of what Artie would (or should) do. He might be able to hold it, but he's in the middle of an investigation. He needs to be sharp. I was wondering whether a dive like that would even have sherry. (And if it did, it would be some dreadful stuff that a connoisseur like Mr. G. would have a hard time swallowing.) Welcome Nydiva! I enjoy Bailey's too. And various other things. Thanks for the welcome. If I had my choice between Bailey's and Artie; I'd take Artie in a heartbeat. Far more intoxicating. And when I get around to putting up an avatar, this thread has given me the perfect inspiration for the caption. (You'll see.)

Then you probably agree with me that the best ice cream there is is Baskin Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip? That would actually be a forth category, since we have Pike's Pigeon, too. I don't know about Damsels, but I'm an old-fashioned Whovian. There's even a Whovian thread in the off-topic forum. Multi-fanaticisms are well tolerated around here, fortunately for me. I'm also a Hobbes Honey and... well, I won't press my luck. But you see my avatar and that actor did co-star in another popular series from the 60's.

Hobbes? As in...?
(We have a cat named Hobbes. She disappeared for a day and a half last week, and refused to stay in the house once she returned. Now the kids have found that she has kittens out in the shed.)

Bobby Hobbes (played by Paul Ben Victor), Federal Agent attached to The Agency, partner and mentor to the invisible man. SciFi's The Invisible Man series that ran 2001-2003. He's the short, balding, bi-polar James Bond in front. Always protecting his partner.

Ah, will have to look into that -- I keep steering my oldest-who-still-lives-here into new obsessions (such as Firefly).
My middle son named our cat Hobbes; I believe he had the tiger from Calvin and Hobbes in mind.

Haagen Dazs or Sedutto are my faves, but BR is fine with me too. If you don't like Damsels, how about the Doctor's Devotees (or Darlings)? The Loveless Ladies just doesn't cut it! Maybe Loveless's Lovlies? Miguelito's Muses? Somebody stop me! I used to be a huuuuge Whovian. I've got scads of stories and will eventually get to the OT section.

Nydive, I don't think I've welcomed you to this side of WWW life. Welcome!
I prefer liqueurs over liquor as well. Before I moved 3+ years ago I had a cupboard full of liqueurs. I would buy different ones every Christmas just to try--and I also liked to cook with them, especially in baked goods.
I had to dispose of the ones that had just a smidgen in the bottle. Just too much too tote for nothing. (Already had too much junk.) But I still have a few. I should start adding to them again.
One of my favorites is Galliano.

As long as I have your attention may I have your permission to use one of your screen caps for an avatar here? Words fail me with regard to your Herculean efforts re: the "Frivilous" thread. It took me two days almost nonstop to go through it quickly. I'm going back to *savor* at a more leisurely pace. So thank you, thank you, thank you (bowing down in awe and in need of an industrial strength drool bib).

I'm not saying I don't like 'Doctor's Damsels'. I think it's neat. I just don't view The Doctor in a romantic way myself. And I definitely like 'Miguelito's Muses'.

I really liked Martin Landau in Space 1999 ;D I liked him in that, but Rollin Hand from Mission Impossible will always be my most ardent adoration, with darling Artemus just barely behind.

For me, there's nothing more compelling than intelligence, no matter what package it comes in. If it wasn't for Artie, I could probably feel tenderness for Miguelito. Now, in my view, Artie has both the brains and a pretty well-wrapped package

I was first introduced to Galliano by way of a drink called a Gold Cadillac, which is way, way too delicious if made properly. Another liqueur i like is Drambuie, which is scotch-based. Nydive, I just answered your message and I'll tell you and anyone else. Do whatever you like with the pix I posted (within limits of course! ). Use them in greeting cards, address labels, letterheads, portraits in your boudoir... whatever. If anyone ever wants the original jpeg, just ask.
