Don't you know you're not supposed to ask those kinds of questions?  ;D It's like the "claws" that Jim suddenly has in Bleak Island. Or WHY Jim (and sometimes Artie) always seems to have just the right device at the right time? And WHERE does Artie get the costumes and makeup when he's far away from the train? |

I think the funniest quick change Artie ever did was walking down that alley in Watery Death--goes left around the corner looking like Artie in a trenchcoat or such--then in 1 second comes back out same way looking like a scummy drunken sailor with long hair and mustache, etc. That was his quickest change in the series I'm pretty sure!! ;D

Ok, here's my theory...
DELETED SCENE:
Jim and Artie are driving the carriage madly towards the Federal Building. They have just been discussing what they will do about Bomb Boy when they get there and are still in need of an idea. Just then, they spot a man at the side of the road, jumping up and down and waving his arms to get their attention, calling out, "Mr West! Mr Gordon! I have what you need!" in a British accent. The man has wild brown hair and is dressed in a trenchcoat over a brown pinstriped suit, with bright red canvas shoes.
As the man seems to know who they are and is offering help, Jim pulls up. With a maniacal grin, the stranger reaches under his trenchcoat and produces a bazooka, explaining in rapid-fire technobabble what the thing is and how to use it.
Artie accepts the contraption, saying, "Well, thank you very much, Mister...?"
"Doctor," the stranger replies. "THE Doctor."
"Doctor who?" asks Jim.
Cutting his eyes at James, the stranger says, "Why does everyone always have to make that particular, extremely lame joke? Now hurry! RUN!"

Say, why don't we do a silly little challenge thing, where whoever wants to participate writes a short scene explaining it? I like Niecie's version, and I bet we can come up with plenty more! I'll go see what my brain throws up... I mean out.

I did consider Bow Tie Guy instead, but I could fit the bazooka under 10's trenchcoat, you see.

Hey, I like the idea of The Doctor showing up, I think it works.... I can just see Sylvester McCoy's doctor showing up with the bazooka net. The 7th doctor is a little more eccentric than 10.  & Tennant is my fav ;D Wait - is that why your nic is Ace??? Heh - Artie would love nitro 9, wouldn't he? |

I had actually thought of 7's companion before when I saw your nic, just didn't make the connection until now.
Edited to add: Anyone who loves the Doctor should check out the comics by Rich Morris, especially 'The Ten Doctors' - woot!

As a long-term fan of The Doctor, I just can't really get into the modern version. Too different from the first 5. I never saw much of #7, hated #6, and liked the others in the following order: 3 & 4 in a constantly shifting tie, then 5, then 1 and finally 2. Or as he called each other in "The Five Doctors"; Fancy Pants vs. Teeth and Curls, followed by The Young Fellow, Old Man, and Scarecrow.
One of my favorite Tom Baker episodes, admittedly one of many, is Deadly Assasin, which I think gave the most rounded view of Gallifreyans and Time Lords. It just doesn't make any sense to me that the Time Lords could suffer the fate the modern series attributes to them, and yet never knew about it beforehand. They're TIME LORDS for gosh sakes! When they visited the future you would think they'd have noticed they weren't there!
Although I am going to have to check out this Ten Doctors.

In regards to everyone's reply about Dr. Who....Cool and Thanks ;D Speaking of questions on TNOT Big Blast....I've always wondered from day one, when I watched this episode as a child. Why did it take Jim so long to break out of his cell? I'm sure that the writers wanted to make it more of an Artie episode, which btw, was great... but we all know that it doesn't take either one of them any time at all to break out of a prison cell. Just a thought that has been bugging me on and off for the past couple decades. It's not like I think about WWW every day of my life, no, no, no  ME TOO! He was drugged for a very long time? |

I agree with the clear logic of them getting it at the corner Bazooka Net Cannons & Stuff store.
I've also suffered through the decades with wondering why it took Jim so long to escape - especially considering how easy it was when he finally did escape.
My reasoning on him knowing to rescue Artie is terribly prosaic - he heard Artie making choice comments when they drug him by to toss him in his cell.
And did they really think they were hiding the escaping man's identity, when they showed the one part of him that is possibly even more recognizable than his face?

You know, the "time" element in some of the episodes is iffy. I'm not sure how much time elapsed between when "Jim" blew up the meeting and Artie arrived in New Orleans. Perhaps Jim had been drugged the whole time until he heard Artie being brought to another cell. Or perhaps the guard who brought his food got lackadaisical this time. Or... perhaps it was a plot device. |
