1885, Ulysses S. Grant passed away at the age of 63. Great old warrior. I read parts of his memoirs a couple of times. Some of his experiences during the Mexican War took place down here in my neck of the woods (southmost Texas).

He was a great man. I have a 2nd edition of his memoirs, which are considered among the greatest in literary history.

I grew up in the Coastal Bend area. Went to Texas A&I University. (that was 'Arts and Industry' before some sap of a lawmaker forced the change to 'Agriculture and Mechanics of Kingsville') Very happy to be a weird Austinite these days. (If you've never heard of Austin, that's no surprise. Most of Texas thinks were just fictional.)

I've lived here over 20 years, and still consider myself a Kentuckian.

Then you probably won't mind my mentioning the motto of myself and several friends after we graduated from A&I and moved to Austin: "Happiness is South Texas in your rear view mirror." Mmm, Kentucky. What a lovely state, and what lovely horses it has!

I have a Grant biography on my Kindle, as well as a Sherman one. How many of the current crop of shows turn their fans into researchers?
