Here's my 1st problem/observation . . . . . I've been a Trek fan almost all my life & know those characters inside & out . . . but I have NEVER wanted to write any stories about them or had them "invade" my life like JW & AG. So WHY ?? have they suddenly "taken over"? I'm not complaining mind you. . . . . but stories/dialogue/scenarios/questions . . . . are like coming out of my ears !!! H E L P (deep breath) okay . . . . I'm better now . . . Are there any people you could see IN the WWW "universe"? I think Hugh Jackman would fit (like his character from Australia) & I think Reba McEntire would fit (think there is a story in that match up) Also . . . are there any characters on TV or in books that you could see RC or RM playing ? I was watching Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone the other night & thought that RC could have played Jesse Stone really well too. okay . . . think I'm done rambling for the day . . . . off to work to get some more "writing" done (I hope) ~ Lass

The only other show I've written fan fiction for is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World, which aired for 3 years in 1999-2002. I became totally immersed in that series, attended fan-organized conventions and met the stars. There were lots of story lines to develop and follow and great characters. I think it's somewhat similar with The Wild Wild West. With the mixture of western, sci-fi, fantasy--the sky's the limit. We also know relatively little about the two charismatic characters in the lead, allowing us to develop their pasts and futures as we see fit. I like to stick to canon when I'm writing, but there's just all different directions to go with what we don't know. I have been watching the late 1950s series "Lawman" on Starz, and I think I could write stories for that show... but I don't have time!

I was a die hard Trekker all through my youth and up to...well, just a few years ago. It is strange, but I have no desire to buy any of the ST dvds, new or old. Nor have I explored Star Trek on the Web. Since I have rediscovered WWW I barely find myself interested in any other shows (except Merlin and a few others on Sci-Fi). Definitely it is an obsession with me. Fortunately, I find myself in great company!

I watched ST during its original run but never came close to being a Trekkie. Since that time I caught episodes here and there, but a couple of months ago I rented the DVDs from Netflix and viewed them all. Still didn't make me a Trekkie, and with no interest to write for the show.
I did enjoy the new movie with Chris Pine, and also watched Jim Cawley's most recent episode and liked it. Gives me more enthusiasm for seeing his version of the Wild Wild West!

Aw, what's wrong with a little friendly obsession now and then? Obeseeion is such a uhm clinical word and it implies there is something that needs to be cured. I don't know about you but I have NO intentions of ever being cured of my level of captivation ;D

Well, in truth, I am guilty ...of more than one fandom. I apologize. But I wanted to be honest with all y'all. Star Trek was something I enjoyed a great deal and have fond and foolish memories of being in that fandom. Same with Star Wars, same with Xena. and to a lesser extent, because it was the show I loved, not so much the fandom, Beauty and Beast [the tv series] several westerns captured my fancy some years back and two still have it, namely Wagon Train and Laramie. The characters are fascinating to me, and I have written some crossover fics in that 'realm'. BUT all that being said. Wild, Wild West absolutely stays with me, forty years on, as the top of the list of inspirations for my stories and much loved shows and characters. as noted in this thread, its the combination of fantasy, 'sci-fi', western and history [to some extent] that put this show in a class by itself. There's so much 'leeway', and such rich characters to mine as well. I don't see how you could beat Jim and Artie and Loveless as fictional characters whose opposite points of view bring them into regular conflict. And there is simply no way to 'beat' the onscreen partnership of Robert, Ross and Michael. It all seems effortless while watching, but we all know better. They all [and all the other guests and regulars] worked vast hours with all kinds of time and budget and other restraints being placed on them. And they produced together this amazing series... again, like no other before or since. And as for writing fanfiction based on Wild, Wild West, I think its telling that I have brought characters similar to ones in other shows and so forth into my Wild, Wild West stories, rather than going in the other direction. I want my fiction for the most part to live in the world of Artie and Jim and Grant and Miguelito in the 1870s.

Would that be something like "polyfanory"? ;D But it's certainly nothing to apologize for. Or if it is, I have a lot to apologize for! Of course there are other shows I've loved. It's a real tribute to WWW that it's still my #1 favorite.

Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever lose my obessidivity to WWW, but then I watch something else and I find myself right back at my WWW DVDs. There is NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that even comes close to the style, stories, characters and chemistry of the Wild Wild West.

lass, I think you're pretty lucky to be "possessed" by JW & AG ---- I also think I'm jealous! I was re-watching "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" recently and thought that Ross Martin would have made a cool Indy.

I gave up on Skiffy when they got a chief (Bonnie something or other, I think) who openly hate SF (!!??) and canceled their top 2 original series, 'Farscape' and 'The Invisible Man'. I was an I-Maniac. 'Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World', 'The Invisible Man' and 'The Wild Wild West' are the only series I've written fanfic for. Err, unless you count that Rollin Hand (Mission Impossible) and Emma Peel (The Avengers) are in my as-of-yet unfinished 'The Night of the Descendants'. Lass, you've done it now. They will torment you for WWW stories. These guys are the best readers ever.

Somewhere on this board I once posted pics of my 'hareem' of beloved (male) characters.
