Over at the other forum I posted about a library patron noticing my Artemus Gordon tea mug and that she said that fans of the show must have a wicked sense of humor because of the writing of the show. She really loved the show when she was a teen, like I did (she is my younger sister's age) and wanted to know if it was on dvd so she could find it.
Anyway, my question stirred up something over there, but there are people here that may not have seen it. What do you think about the humor of The Wild Wild West?

I think it comprises all kinds of humor, one to suit every palate, even those who don't have a sense of humor. ;D

I have never enjoyed slap stick humor, which is probably why I was so turned off by the re-union movies. To this day, I still haven't forced myself to watch the second one.
What made WWW so wonderful, was its humor, usually was just a casual part of the episode, very understated. Often it was in the dialog though occasionally it was part of the action. Seldom did it have me laughing out loud, but it gets me to smile even after seeing it a dozen (or two, no make that three) times.

I don't like slapstick humor much myself. I really can't stand the Three Stooges anymore at all. As for the reunion movies, I don't really remember slapstick...but they do have that feel to it, don't they? I guess I will just have to force myself to watch them again...I do like seeing Ross older

I've never thought of WWW as being humorous, as in like sit-com humorous. It often had a kind of tongue in cheek humor and you could sense that the people who did the show had fun doing it. I'm not sure what she meant by "wicked". True meaning as in depraved, immoral, malevolent? Or "wicked" as in slang, meaning cool, awesome, high spirited?? If the later, then yes, definitely "wicked" ! It had the BEST of everything I could have ever wanted in a tv show. Two handsome heros, horses/western, sci-fi, horror, drama and yes, a sense of humor in that it was FUN not "funny". I also do NOT enjoy slapstick, I can't even gag down Lucy re-runs because it so borders on that even though I loved the Lucy shows as a kid. And that's why I can't watch the re-union movies either, they are just too goofy and I can't see my heroes ending up that way.

I never thought the show was written as humorous. In fact, I always thought that no matter how incredible the plot was, or whatever outlandish things happened in the course of that hour, these guys never winked, they made the whole thing just plain believable. Sure there were humous lines or scenes, but to me it enhanced that particular episode, but it never lingered. As for the reunion movies, I can't bring myself to watch them because they're way too campy, and any attempt at humor just fell flat.

I can't bring myself to watch Lucy re-runs anymore either, Paradox. I watched them over and over as a kid and just can't do it again. I don't like seeing what the writers did to the guys, either. in the reunion movies, but there are some great moments...someone needs to put together a montage of those!

It is interesting to see how our tastes change. There are no sit-coms that I watch anymore (except for the occasional Brit-com if nothing else is on and I'm not in the mood for WWW, which doesn't happen very often). Many of the sit-coms I used to watch, I flinch at the thought of now. WWW RULES!

I do watch some sitcoms...How I met your Mother; Accidentally on Purpose, and Big Bang Theory. I love the Britcoms too. I am always in the mood for one of those AND you are so right DT, WWW DOES RULE!

We just bought season 3 of I Love Lucy and we're loving it. I used to watch it but forgot a lot.
Off hand, I think the humor in WWW was enough to keep it from getting too....hmmmm .....serious? Not too much to change the flavor but tastes of it here and there. Like when Mark Lenard's character fell off Jim's horse but the horse came back when Jim whistled. Jim had a good laugh and so did we. ;D

I too love the little spurts of humor, like that scene with Jim and the horse, interspersed throughout the series. ;)I have friends who also love the I Love Lucy series but I celebrate the diversity of our interests and especially our funny bones! I have one friend who thinks Barney Fife is the greatest hero ever! “D” is one of the smartest, sweetest, gentlest, most generous, fun loving women I've ever met. I often tell her I want to be like her when I grow up. Alas...I think that will never happen though. I could never trade in James West for Barney Fife!! ;D ;D

Yeah, Barney Fife is no Jim West! Nor an Artemus Gordon, for that matter!
