Other than the obvious technical "wardrobe" mistake at the end of Death Masks I don't have any issues with that ep lol. In Amnesiacs I would have loved it if Artie had gotten to do more of his theme. But I like both eps and watch them frequently (although not as frequently as some I'm sure)

I watched Underwear Tearer--I mean Underground Terror--last night and enjoyed it. Jeff Corey and Nehemiah Persoff make great villains. I like Jim in his Don Juan outfit. In fact I took some screen caps of that episode and as soon as I get them sorted out, I'll post a few. Still just got to wonder how that wardrobe malfunction got passed the censors of that era which were even more strict than now. But they didn't even stop the fight when RC got clobbered by a chair. Then they tried to "disguise" the torn trousers by putting Jim in a pair ripped on the SIDE! I guess they thought everyone would think, hmm, thought it was different than that but... After all, no one was ever going to see it more than once, twice at the most in summer reruns.
As far as Death Masks is concerned, it's simply one of my top 3 favorites. I love the story, the acting, and all of the great close-ups. The director did a fabulous job with it. One shot I always notice is when Artie is collapsing from the drugged coffee and the scene segues to Jim rousing from the drugged hypo in the street of Paradox.
And of course, Ross's turn as the shocked and horrified Artie who believes he's killed his "brother," then having to pretend to be the shocked and horrified Artie who believes he's killed his brother. Great job.
I like to say Death Masks is Mission Impossible in reverse, with the bad guys manipulating the good guys.

You know I have always wondered why they didn't make RC wear color coordinated undies. Many of the "wardrobe malfunctions" would have been less obvious he wore something other than snow white.
I also watched these two episodes within the last week, and, I agree, they are great episodes. Death Masks is in my all time top 5. Though I have always wondered why Jim didn't notice the telegraph office when he was wandering around Paradox. Why did it take sweet little Betsy to point it out to him? And how did Emmet Stark's boys manage to swap a live person for a dummy so quickly?

I've also wondered why Jim didn't notice the telegraph office--but it seems to be further down and across the street. Maybe he didn't wander THAT far. The whole scheme was well choreographed. Also, Stark seemed to know exactly when Jim would pass out and how long he would be out! The strangest incident is after he's shot in the leg, has the fight in the saloon, and then passes out. Can only think it was delayed shock. Was that in Stark's plan, or did he just take advantage of it? Then it was timed perfectly that Artie would arrive in Paradox and wake up at close to the same time as Jim would re-awaken. Sweet Betsy sure turned out to be a sinister character.

Death Masks is always a top episode for me as well. I think it one the most "detail correct" episodes they did. Small things like Jims hat still being on the table when he returns from another scene. The bandaging and "blood" on his leg stay consistent and then there's Artie getting shot in the leg. He holds his leg as he runs and you see his leg wound and his hand is "bloody" as he loads the gun in the sheriff's office. But then there is the shooting boo-boo. Apparently both Jim and Artie's six shooters are eight shooters. But it is really and excellent episode and I've only noticed these things because I've watched it so often. ;D

Okay so the other day I had some less than satisfied reactions to Amnesiac, but today I watched Underground Terror and Death Masks back to back and honestly can't find a thing to complain about in either... well, except for the tiny, cheesy 'masks most of the Mardi-Gras folks including Jim and Artie wear in the beginning of UT. SIGH. Talk about saving money in an obvious way! Other than that, love that ep, love Jeff Corey and Nehemiah Persoff...[sp?] And Artie's fussy English douser! Gotta love him, pouting and pushing and making the bad guys dance to his tune. LOL And if there's anything wrong with Death Masks, I can't find it. The masks look cool!!! Any comments, friends?
