I was doing screen caps of Camera last night, and as usual, I saw things on my computer screen that I never noticed when watching on my (old) TV set. (I'll post frivolous pix later today or tomorrow from this ep.) In the fight scene in the Chinese gambling casino, I noticed that Jim seems to have some kind of which pad or flat box tucked into the back of his trousers. Some kind of stunt protection? They didn't make Depends in those days did they? Any ideas?

Was Jim thrown a fair distance in this ep? (sue me I don't really pay that much attention Artie's not there lol) it could be the device they use to attach the "invisible" fly line.

I definately believe it's some of the protective padding the stunt people use. I often watch his legs during fight scenes. You can see the outline of the round pads at his hips and his knees sometimes. In Death Masks as he's walking with the lantern next to his legs, you can see the knee padding outline quite well.

Isn't that supposed to be his bandage?

I don't think he was thrown in this one, but I'm not sure. It was a usual rough & tumble fight though. Just another case, as in Underwear Tearer and Pistoleros, they didn't want to waste time and film redoing it, figuring no one was going to notice on one brief viewing. Little did they know! I've noticed the padding outline in other instances, but never something showing like this. I thought at first it had something to do with the white suspenders he sometime wears.

I was thinking that it was the white suspenders...but maybe the white suspenders hold up padding. Call him and ask him Cal Gal!

I don't remember this scene but if he gets pushed or knocked backwards, they would definately want to pad his lower vertibrae, especially if he lands against furniture or that bar.

I definitely think it's padding. Probably to protect his tailbone, or whatever that thing's called. Depends?? LOL!!!! ;D

Well, if the book they were stealing was white, I'd have said he stuffed it in his pants so that he could fight. No pockets, right?
But....since I do believe he threw it back to Mr. Cutie Pie Pike...I'd say it was probably padding, too. ;D

It reminds me of those wireless mikes. Hey, maybe Jim was testing out Artie's new invention... ;D

You know, that was one of the first things I thought of when I saw that white pack, that it was some kind of mike. But they didn't have them in the 1960s let alone in the 1860s-70s.

I think it is padding. I know it is difficult to force yourself to look at his butt closely but if you can manage it, you will notice a slight bulge at either hip.

I can totally see it! I automatically thought it was some sort of microphone, but the padding thing makes so much more sense.

When my son played football, Pop Warner and then in high school, he played iron-man. The pads he wore were very much like that and consisted of a 'girdle' for lack of a better word, which held Hip Pads and a Butt Pad. Literally to protect the hips, tail bone and backside. I showed him this pic before answering just to be sure and he confirmed that's what it looked like to him and commented it would be a necessary piece of equipment for someone being thrown around breaking up furniture with his body like RC was.

it's a tiny little parachute. small but effective. he always used this in any scene where he is airborne for any length of time.
