Today is the 187th anniversary of the birth of Ulysses Grant, born in Point Pleasant, Ohio on April 27th, 1822!
And as one of many Grant-philes here, I just wanted to wish Jim and Artie's President many happy returns of the day! Happy Birthday, Sir! And thank you, Mr. President for your selfless, dauntless service to this nation of ours in its darkest days!

Happy Birthday President Grant! I enjoy reading and learning about that time in history also. We have a Civil War reenactment coming up in a few months in our area, and I'll be there.

Happy Birthday, Sam. If ever a person lived the American Dream, U.S. Grant did--rising from virtually nothing to become the great leader he was. Better yet, the respect for him has grown over time, both as a general and president--and as a man. Thanks for hiring Jim & Artie too.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President!! Here's a link to his gravesite: www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=411Wow. So much I didn't know. I didn't know he died of throat cancer. Poor man. Or that after his Presidency, he lost all his money from Wall Street. Sheesh. Kinda like nowadays. Strong man. Strong character. That much I knew.

Grant's autobiography is considered one of the finest ever written. I own a second edition. Tried to get a first edition but it was just a wee bit out of my price range.

I think I need to look online for available copies. Or the library but I'd end up paying for it in overdue fines. LOL.

It's been a long time--pre ebay. I used to get a newsletter from a Philadelpha CW organization where people offered books and other stuff for sale. I think I paid around $30 for the 2nd ed. But i do not remember how much a first edition was. All I remember is that I couldn't afford it!
