Last night I dreamed that Wanderer Jim had finally produced episodes of WWW on DVD and though they weren't RC or RM they were a beautiful tribute to the original

Wouldn't that be great?! I do hope he can accomplish at least one episode and get it posted for viewing. I have a lot more faith in WandererJim following the show's canon, than I do in Hollywood.

You have any level of faith whatsoever in Hollywood? Why?
Wanderer Jim, now, I think we can rely on him to do a good tribute.

You have any level of faith whatsoever in Hollywood? Why? Yes. I still have some faith in Hollywood...to produce some of the most fantastic visual WOWsery the mind can be boggled by. What I don't have faith in, is their overall ability to match good visuals with equally good stories. They can certainly do it...the Harry Potter series and the Lord of the Rings series to name a couple (but then those stories weren't created by Hollywood, were they?) I hate walking out of a theater thinking, Wow, those were awesome effects, but...what was the storyline again? Transformers was like that for me. I am hoping Cowboys and Aliens will turn out to be both. As for current TV creations these days, I find most seriously disappointing. Anything that starts out with good dramatic intensity and mystery seems to soon degrade into a soap opera. Along side of the intrigue and action, I really don't care to know about every horny encounter and wistful longing fantasy the main characters have in every hour or who's crying in their beer over whom this week. If that's not the premise and theme of the show... blah blah blah...who cares, too much personal information is BORING. Instead, leave something for my imagination to work on please. That was the charm of the older shows, they knew how to leave us wanting for more in our admiration and knowledge of the characters and where their stories were going. And that's really the point, isn't it? That's why we still want our Wild Wild West to give us more of what we remember gave us so much pleasure in the first place. They left us hanging and we want to continue.... Sorry, if I'm babbling...

They left us hanging and we want to continue.... Sorry, if I'm babbling... 1) We all babble regularly around here - and no one complains cause we all like the safe pressure-relief valve. I hate to say it, but I wonder if this trend in modern shows is a mistaken reaction to fan fiction? Trust tv producers to put the most absolutely wrong interpretation on things. Since fanfiction often tends to the exploration of emotional aspects (what our imaginations produce) they mistakenly think that is what we really want to see. But we don't! We want to develop that part of the characters ourselves. They should focus on giving us good stories. I think one of the most personal, non-action-related lines Mission: Impossible ever had was when Barney called Cinnamon's eyelash curler the most diabolical contraption he'd ever seen. Of course, that show was the extreme to that end, although one of my absolute favorites. Those people will never understand the minds of loyal watchers!

Speaking of Cowboys and Aliens, it's a Ron Howard film, so it might have a chance to be good.

I've read a couple of reviews of Cowboys & Aliens and both were VERY positive.

Silver, I think you hit the nail on the head with the fanfiction vs the filmed shows. We all like to entertain our own interpretations of what the inner characters are like. It's a part of what keeps us coming back for more. I'd be really curious to know if show writers actually read fanfiction and to what extent it affects them. ------------------------
Can't wait to see Cowboys and Aliens!

I'm going to have to go see Cowboys & Aliens - I've thought it sounded intriguiing from the first time I heard about it, and I am quite fond of Harrison Ford. Of course, we'll all be imagining Jim and Artie taking care of those nasty aliens.

I really liked what you wrote, Silver; you have indeed knocked that nail on the head for me to. While I have been pondering over why our favorite show had had such an impact on me, as opposed to all the others offered in the Sixties and Seventies, I came to the similar conclusion; the 'gaps' left by nature of design about the WWW characters provided plenty of room for the imagination to roam ...(Gorgeous looking guys, talented acting and phenomenal action help too, of course ;D) In more modern 'cop shows' the entertainment is lesser, and the 'gossipy', often maudlin, so-called psychology takes over, to the detriment of the plot! And that the last I want after a hard day at work, to be honest I need a little magic in the evening, thank you very much! WWW never disappointed in that respect - a relatively new concept for me - And neither did the discussions on the Board

Aunt Maud, I feel the need to say: You are an important part of the quality of this forum. I'm glad you enjoy us as much as I enjoy you and all of the rest of the folks around here.
I like how you expressed that, too. "Gossipy and maudlin" is so true!
