Niecie and I were chatting offline and she suggested I start a discussion thread in case anyone wants to trash/ask any questions re my descendents story.
See (points) she made me do it! ;D
I think it would be fun to discuss points of view on how our boys end up, after all, the movies show them as ageless in spirit but a little more aged in body.
For instance, is there room for Retroactive continuity (retcon for short) where our heores are always young men in any era?Personally I think not, as their story and style is so bound up in the time, technology and events of the last years of the 19th Century.
To kick things off (in case there may be that odd interested reader out there ) here is my take on "WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE SECOND MOVIE"
Artemus Gordon married Arden Masterson with a lavish fiesta at the home of his friend James West just outside of Nogales, Mexico. (see my TNOT Happy Ever After) A week later he took his new bride to Europe. Starting in Paris, France, they sampled the heady nightlife and culture of the European cities Artemus had visited many years before. Returning to Mexico their son and only child, was born later that year (1891) at the Gordons' neighbouring hacienda. Ulysses James Gordon was as forward thinking as his father and developed the family honey hives into the honey beer brewery that seven generations on, is still in family hands. Although he did not live to see it, Artemus’ favourite granddaughter (Artemis aka Misty) was one of the first notable actresses in the early days of film. She obviously inherited the Gordon acting gene and was famed as an actor in many serials of the day. She took the name Artemis Arden as her stage name. (Am basing "her" career loosely on that of Jane Withers, born 1926.) Her father, Ulysses, had married the daughter of the widow of the orginal owner of the Rancho that James West purchased after his first retirement. Artemis and her husband (Jai West) went on to found a radio station (Call sign WEST) which ironically was best known for its thrilling wild west radio serials. This was due in large part to the detailed and best-selling (in their day) memoirs of her Grandfather! Copies of which are now scarce, although the Library of Congress has a full set. Interestingly for many years they were in the fiction section until a family member (her son) objected and got the classification changed. Some years later the family was pleased to give permission for their use to an eager up and coming story writer for the new medium of television, where they contributed to the cowboy/spy/action hero mania of the early sixties.
So, have I started a hare...?
