I was thinking a thread like this might be interesting and might spark some new discussion. I was planning on posting, as the thread title says, a question each week. So I will selfishly start out with: What kind of things would you like to see in a fanfic? You can be as specific or as vague as you want. Anything from a wedding for one of the guys to the brand of cigars they prefer. This might even send some plot bunnies home to their masters loaded with inspiration. ;D There is no right or wrong answer and I expect sometimes we will get OT but I won't mind.

Hmmmmm....I'd like to see stories about the childhoods of Jim and Artie or perhaps their wartime exploits. In other words, more background stuff.
And I'd love if someone would tackle Miguelito's childhood! Now that would be fascinating!

Hmm, interesting question. I always like stories that include both Jim and Artie, and a little angst doesn't hurt. (Or may be it does! ;D ) Stories that involve real historical people or events are good too. I keep trying to come up with one!
And I do like to read people's versions of the boys' backgrounds.

And I'd love if someone would tackle Miguelito's childhood! Now that would be fascinating! I agree! I'm fascinated by 'the backstory' of a character or a situation. And although I have one or two new ideas about Jim and Artie... Miguelito is not one I'd considered... could be a lot of fun to work out... as for other 'would like to read' ideas it depends on my mood, sometimes I'm feeling really morbid and think about writing a farewell story for the guys... I had a scene... in an unfinished 'work'... with Jim pre-deceasing Artie... so future-casts... CG wrote a fine one and its the one I can recall seeing with that in mind... what happens to our guys? Do they keep on as agents for Hayes or for Garfield? Do they train fledgling spies? I'd love to see a story where Artie gets married... James I just can't quite 'see' tying the knot... but that's me, a well written story can always change my mind.

One other thought...I do like the occasional story with a comic tone.

I've had a deathbed scene in my head for a long time. But every time I really start to think about it, I start to cry. I'm no good at writing straight comedy. I do try to incorporate a little in my stories, usually repartee between the guys. I'd also like to write another "background" story, as well as a "future" one, but I just haven't had the right plots hit me yet.

I like a certain amount of humor in a fanfic too. As for Jim getting married, I would like to see him paired up with one of the strong-minded ladies from the series -- I just can't decide which one.

I like adventure stories. Anything that has good plot and twists and Arte pulling Jim's fat out of the fire . As far as a story about a marriage, it could work, if the right person told the story. Sometimes stories like that can get a little out of character or far-fetched. Too mushy (YES, too mushy Pettie. I said it.) They have to be true to the character of our guys.

A beautiful touching romance with West and a woman he loves.

These are all great comments! I know I have a plot bunny or two stirring. I hope others do too. We need more fanfic!
I'd like to see a nice story about the guys married in the future. CalGal did one a while ago that was truly delightful and proved that it can be done in an interesting, tasteful manner without compromising a story line completely unrelated to the marriage twist.
I'm a sucker for action and adventure with a dollop of angst. I'm also into psychological thriller type stories. I can't write them, but I'd love to read one about the guys.

I'm not really a slacker, RL just got in my way and the question of the week went bye bye from my mind this week. I'll take the suggestion for the next question...Which of the women throughout the series could you see or would you like to see Jim marry?

I've thought of Lydia Monteran or Linda Medford. Possibly Sheila Parnell. (Seems like my choices are in the first season. Did they stop writing strong women later?)

Linda Medford occurred to me, too. Of course, Jim would have to reform her first! I think you're right, Niecie. I am having trouble thinking of a female from the other 3 seasons. Possibly Katherine from Legion of Death.

well if we're going to look at women Jim would have to reform before they would be 'marriage material'...
i dunno, maybe Jennifer Wingate? - y'know, the lady assassin from Thousand Eyes?
or the blonde from 'Terror Stalked the Town'...?
or, back to good girls... how about Jim pursuing that Albanian princess... the real one, she definitely had a strong will and a lot of courage. Problem there is she had to go back and probably become queen of Albania... really rough at the time, since the Ottoman Empire was taking over!
I don't see Lydia from Inferno as anyone's wedded wife... even though I could definitely see her coming back to make more trouble for Jim.
still stuck in the first season here... hmmm... maybe there were just too many flibbertygibbets later on?
could Jim have reformed that redhead who wanted to steal the Constitution? maybe.
much less likely would be either of Michelle Carey's femme fatales, from Feathered Fury and Winged Terror... besides Gerta got turned into gold dust...
can't come up with many examples here... but then I'm as a Gem, I'm totally biased. LOL

Oh, how about the gypsy queen?
Oh, and I thought of another one: the Mexican lady colonel from TNOT Assassin.

I can think of at least one woman who would NOT be a suitable match: Dooley in Fire and Brimstone. Too whiny!
Maybe not Gatita from Deadly Bed either. How long could he stand being called "Jeemy!" ;D
Erika, the lion tamer in Circus of Death, seemed to click. She certainly has courage.

I was going to vote for Lydia Monteran, but Jim could never make a good girl out of her, and he would never marry a bad one. Which raises an interesting (to me) question. Aren't the most interesting women in the series the devilish dames, the bad girls? They seem to be the ones Jim is attracted to. Yet he's too devoted to duty and has too much self-respect to get involved with a criminal. That could explain why he never has a real romance.
Or, as Emma Valentine put it, he's looking for a cross between Cleopatra and Helen of Troy, and it can't be done. Emma herself could have given Lydia a run for her money in her younger days, but we see that Jim is a bit ageist. So he'll just have to go on shopping. ;D
