Does anyone know if Ross ever had a favorite color?
I was chatting by email with a fellow RM fan, and we realized that this truly dumb, basic fan-girl factoid has never surfaced - at least not that we knew of.
I can't rememer seeing mention of that anywhere. Not important in the least; but now the question has lodged in my head and I was wondering if the answer is out there.

I'm not sure if it's known, but I do know that I don't know. There was something in Sue Kessler's book about deciding to dress Robert in blues and greens and Ross in browns and golds, but I don't know if that was as much favorite colors as what they looked good in.

I'm pretty sure the colors referred to in Kesler's book were the ones which wardrobe had the say in choosing (they done good). My personal fave is the burgundy suit - sets him off so beautifully. But I must say he looks wonderful in the yellow shirt (a color I avoid for myself). There are so very, very few pictures of Ross as Ross in color - and since he's wearing a different color in each, they're not much of a help. There's the "red sweater" one from TVGuide, a ridiculously priced photo on Ebay with a denim shirt, and another somewhat pricey photo on Ebay with a tan tennis sweater. As I said, not important info in the least - but it's been bugging me!

just speculating here, of course, but Ross had been 'in the business' some time before W3, and so I can't help wondering if he didn't have some input, knowing what colors he looked well in, on film. Couldn't have been that much input there, bc I never thought Ross looked that great in the sort of greyish blue suits he wore I think mostly in season two, as Artie. Didn't mind the trim, but the color wasn't a good one for him. The dark red/maroon, yes, wonderful color, even though I wouldn't have guessed that, since Ross' complexion was sometimes a bit ruddy. The dark browns and tans - he looked fantastic in, even a Jewel can admire how good. anyhow, just my guessing and my humble opinion.

And I, on the other hand, adore the blues and (especially) teals they put Jim in. What I would give to have those gorgeous, gorgeous vests.
And I agree (quelle surprise) that Ross looked scrumptious in browns. Oh heck, I think he looked scrumptious period! Of course I admire Jim's looks too (one would have to be blind not to) - but those crinkly eyes and crooked grin of Ross's get to me every time.
Still hoping someone knows the answer to my original color question, though.

You might try calling Robert on his show and asking him if he knows.

I don't think RC would appreciate a fan asking a question about another actor. Most actors wouldn't. I've seen a few actors get a bit testy when asked (not by me!) something along these lines. Guess the answer will have to remain a (minor) mystery in my life!

Ok, I don't know how possible it would be to ask them, but Ross's kids might know. If it's awkward asking Robert, though...

Ok, I don't know how possible it would be to ask them, but Ross's kids might know. If it's awkward asking Robert, though... "Kids" made me smile - they'd all have to be at least in their late 50's-60's. I'd have no idea on how to contact them; nor would I be inclined to for such a trivial matter - no matter how much it's been bugging me! It's one thing to ask about another actor if you've met/spoken to the first actor at least a few times...it's another to just ask the question "cold". By nature, actors DO have egos. "Mr Conrad - I love the WWW. Do you know Ross's favorite color?" Nah - too blunt. While RC is not my favorite actor* (for that matter, neither is Ross!), I don't want to bruise his feelings either. *My fave actor passed away last year; I had known him for 40 years - a truly brilliant theatrical character actor who could still surprise me with unexpected/stunning performances. And I never even thought to ask HIS favorite color! Too busy discussing theatre.

Just read this--Diva, you should conduct an "Actor Etiquette 101" class for fans! I mean, there are a lot of encounters that end up frustrating people on both sides--the actors because they think the fans are rude and clueless, and the fans because they're surprised when their heroes aren't thrilled with their questions and demands.
I have no idea what Ross's favorite color was, or even if he had one. I've never seen the question addressed in an interview.

I recently ran across an old article that said Ross's home was done in earth tones with touches of rust and olive - so as least I know what colors he liked in his environment; though they aren't necessarily his favorite colors.
I prefer the cooler spectrum myself. Lots of blues in different shades.

I agree, you just couldn't ask RC cold what RM's favorite colors were. You might start out by asking RC about how great he looked in the suits they chose for him, and were they in his favorite colors. Then you could ask if RM's suits were chosen the same way and were they in his favorite colors. Then ask about something else about RC. He might not mind as much answering an occasional question about a fellow actor if you keep the conversation mostly about him.

I'm sorry, say what? Did I insult someone? If so, I didn't mean to. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that it might annoy RC if he were asked cold about what what RM's favorite colors were. So I thought if someone were to call in and ask, this might be a way of doing it, without annoying RC. If the question about RM leads him tell stories about working with him, great, if he just answers the question and goes on to something else, that would be OK too.

I really doubt RC would know what RM's favorite color was (if he could even remember it after 40 years). Does a guy know another guy's favorite color?

Spotted Pony I doubt if there would be enough time allowed if I called into his show to get all that out! And I wouldn't want to take away time from any RC fans who would be thrilled to talk to him. Not that I would mind - but it wouldn't mean as much to me as to RC's other fans. RC is neither at the top NOR the bottom of my "faves" list. Somewhere in between. Ross is near the top. Matthew Broderick is rock bottom (I find him b-o-r-i-n-g).

I doubt if the subject EVER came up. It's just not (in general) a guy thing. Heck, if I had to name the favorite color of all the actors I KNOW...I could name just about one. And that's only because he's sooooooo into his Irish ancestry. However, as to their favorite cookies...now THAT I know!

And now I want to know what Ross's favorite cookies were!! Another unanswerable dumb question. I don't know the answer to this one either, 'diva, but my first guess would be hamantashen [sp?] the buttery tarts that are usually made for Purim or macaroons of many different flavors that are usually made for Passover. I'm only basing these guesses on the info that one of Ross' first languages was Yiddish - so he could have known these customs as a child in the Lower East side of NYC.

Hamantaschen (and I had to look up the spelling) is a pain to make. It's very tricky to get the dough to stick together at the corners properly. I've made it on a trial basis, but it's not something I'd add to my repertoire. Macaroons are easier - but no one I know is that big on coconut.
On the other hand, I need to start buying peanut butter by the case. So many of my Broadway buddies are major PB lovers. I do crispy press cookies, peanut blossoms and an oatmeal peanut butter with peanut butter creme.
Those and my lemon butter cookies are the "best sellers".
There are two food stores on the Lower East Side (that I've been to) that I'd bet my bottom dollar Ross also frequented. One is Yonah Schimmel's Knishery (est. 1890!!! and still at the same location) and the other is Russ & Daughters (a newcomer est. 1914). Haven't been to either for a few years though. Way out of the way and way pricey.
