I've seen Bogus Bandits twice now. The first time I saw it, several months ago, I thought something was off about Loveless's characterization, especially at the end when he held Belladonna at gunpoint. (And also, his scheme of having his gang commit those robberies. That didn't seem right to me, either. It sounded more like Loveless when he explained it was just so they would learn to work as a cohesive unit, and yet somehow the angle still doesn't feel quite right to me.) But I dismissed my feelings, figuring that I simply didn't know the character well enough to make such a call.
However, after seeing the great majority of the show's episodes, and repeatedly watching some, I've ended up with the same conclusion upon watching the Bogus Bandits. So I'm left scratching my head, wondering if it's just me or if the writer that time really did make a flub.
Thoughts? Did he seem out-of-character to anyone else?

I'd have to say no, not really. It was different in that he wasn't using some gadget or chemical for his world-conquering plans. But he was planning, as usual, to set up his own empire, and he needed money, men, and arms to do it. He also lured Jim into it--perhaps not on purpose because of the henchman who swiped the charred bills and thus allowed the Secret Service agents to get a clue of where to look. Maybe it was a bit out of character for him to threaten to kill Belladonna... but then, she wasn't Antoinette!

I've always thought this episode was one of Dunn's richest performances as our evil Doctor. The threatening of his consorts life took his megalomania to a higher, even more dangerous level. Proving once again, that he will let nothing, absolutely nothing get in the way of his goals and that all things around him are expendable to that end. I think this is my favorite Dr. L. episode.

I like Bogus Bandits alot too-I think Dr. Loveless was being himself--he just had a different situation of evil. And it was still hard adjusting to Antoinette not being his female partner anymore, so Belladonna was her temporary replacement which also made the episode seem different from the first 6 he did. I thought it was a great way to end Season 2 though.

I didn't think there was deviation from his usual character.
He concocts an intricate, multi-layered plot, shows callousness towards his underlings, and is looking to be ruler over a large territory - complete with ostentatious (but very becomming) uniform.
Sounds like the Miguelito I know! (And love!) ;D
Oh, but how I do miss Antoinette! Pity that personal matters squelched this wonderful partnership.

It would have been interesting to see how the plot was written if Antoinette was still around. Surely the doctor would not have threatened her!

Maybe he could have threatened Artie, who was dazed and defenseless and no longer right next to Jim. Not that I'd ever want anyone to harm as much as one hair on that gorgeous mane!!

Nooo-- Loveless would have never threatened to kill Antoinette if she were still around in that episode! It's too bad they just let her be gone with no explanation in the episodes after Green Terror.

Television was so different in those days. Main characters could vanish or be replaced without a word of explanation. Couldn't happen these days with the Internet, Twitter, Facebook, etc.!

Maybe that could be a topic for a thread: what do you think happened to Antoinette and Voltaire?"

Dr Loveless had trouble changing her back from a bunny.
As for Voltaire - Kitty ate 'im.

Voltaire started his own Bad Guy Legion Guild of Doom with Antoinette! ;D Voltaire thought he could do a better job bc of all of Loveless's mishaps with Jim and Artie. Ha! Ha! Yeah, ;D I thought Loveless was totally in character and he had a great performance in this episode one of the best Loveless shows. I really don' t think Loveless would threaten shooting Antoinette with a gun, Belladonna yes, Antoinette no.

Yeah, I think it was mainly the thing with Belladonna that threw me for a loop. After seeing Loveless with Antoinette, it was hard for me to imagine him threatening to kill one of his female supporters. But it's very true, that Belladonna isn't Antoinette. Pity Antoinette had to vanish!
