happy news here, we have a new kitten! We don't know his name yet, because he pretty much walked up to Janie at her hospital parking lot and adopted her on sight. He's about three or four months old and so far we've tried a long list of names including 'Indy' and 'Junior', even Jim and Artie... but he's too much of a red head for either agent. His head looks kinda like a Siamese, but he's mainly a short haired orange tabby.

What a pretty boy! He obviously knew what he was doing when he approached Janie. Good home ahead!
I had 2 separate ginger boy kitties named Topaz, and my current girl is Brandy.

He is a cutie! Those are some big ears for him to grow into. He must have been scoping Janie out, and decided she the one.
I read a book not long ago set in the 1880's with a red-headed woman named Cimarron. The name would work for a male as well.

reticulated collard lizard. to bad about his tail. or lack of it. when I was a kid I had a pair of these lizards as pets for a couple of years. they were really neat. I would take them outside and let them run down the driveway. they are one of the kinds of lizards that lift up and run on their hind legs. I like Chuckwallas very cool lizards. Horny toads too. we got brown anoles EVERYWHERE here at my house . they do their dance everyday, all day long. I have a Mediterranean Geckos and Indo Pacific Geckos in the garage. killed a giant brown widow the other day in a box I picked up.
Doc likes centipedes don't you Doc?

Then I want to see pictures Elsordo!!! I want to see what they look like where you are. So cough them up!! Pardner I'm not too fond of centipedes, I'ds gots them here they be 'No Fun' Here ye go pardner... top is a Mediterranean Gecko, he is a mid size one. they get pretty beefy at 5 to 8 inches warty looking but very soft and sweet lizards. come out at night. I found this one sweeping the garage today. I am showing the proper way to hold a small lizard. I let this guy back into the garage. he eats bugs. the dark brown fellow in the middle pictures is a Full grown Brown Anole. he has my Southern kitchen window and area around it as his territory. He is on patrol looking for any other males that might be wanting to trespass. I have caught him a couple of time to wuv on him. he hates me. lol. he sticks around though. living is good at my house. the bottom guy was in my tool shed and is an Indo Pacific Gecko, he is a small yearling and they too get pretty big. I have a monster one in the garage. I see him late at night. now a little tid bit about these lizards and my past. when I was 16 or 17... I saw all of these lizards in my town. they were new and NOT from here. I figured out that they were coming in to all the port cities in Florida and some in Texas and Cali. the Geckos that is. the Brown Anole came into the country via nurseries and plant importers. they got started and have taken over. I caught them and with a friend who was getting a masters in biology/ herpetology, we chronicled these invaders of our borders. If you go to the Florida Museum of Natural History which is located at the University of Florida campus (home of the Gators). there are 3 jars there with the lizards in them and my name on the side of them. my claim to fame. as they will be there forever....maybe ...

No pictures of green anoles, El Sordo? They are my favorite! I have one or two that hang out just below the eaves of my house. If my travels take me to Gainesville (being a Seminole I generally avoid it - not really ) I will seek out your lizards!

Green Anoles are one of my favorites too. great lizards. pretty. alas...in most of central and southern Florida the brown anole has taken over by eating the babies and chasing the green anoles to the more rural and heavier foliage areas. there are still colonies of the greens here and there, but not around my house. I am always on the look out for them. there are skinks here and there and if you find some rosemary shrubs you might find some Florida Scrub lizards another one of my favorites.

My niece, who lives in the Hollywood Hills, had these charming critters on and around her deck this morning. Good reason to keep cats and small dogs indoors!

They are all over the place now, and easily adapting to urban areas, like raccoons and possums!

Just so you know there have been reports of coyotes killing people in Texas.

Where did you hear that? I did a brief search and came up with a woman killed in Canada a couple of years ago, presumably by coyotes, and a small child in NY, again a couple years back. Nothing recent that I could find.
One interesting thing I came across is that genetic testing shows that eastern coyotes are larger than western, probably because they interbred with wolves at some point. That could make them more aggressive as well.

I heard it from a friend in Texas that his lady neighbor was attacked and killed by a pack of coyotes because their numbers have been increasing and they are becoming more bolder. That was in conversation and I wasn't given a name or date because at the time it was a passing mention, then I heard it on a radio show a little bit later. That's about all the details I can give you. My point in mentioning it was to be careful around these critters because they have been acting more bold in areas where their numbers have increased. Same thing with a friend in CA. have been seeing more and more mountain lions prowling where you would least expect it like down a city residential street and I have witnessed in person the coyote and mountain lion population increase from the last time I was in CA and until now. So all I'm saying is be careful.
