I cheated a little. I was pretty sure it was a finch, but I had to do a bit of research to get the correct name.

Oh what a lovely zebra! And what is that other critter in the background? It seems to have its back turned to the camera, so I can't really tell if it's a horse or what.

Snow and Apollo Snow is happy having a German Shepherd to play with again. It doesn't seem to bother her that her "baby brother" outweighs her by 60 lbs or so.

These are pictures of a Swallow-Tailed Kite (one of six) that was flying over my house. I have tried a number of times to get a picture, but they always fly off before I could get outside with my camera. The picutes don't do justice to this amazingly beautiful and graceful bird.

Wonderful pictures, DT. I have never seen a kite. I can imagine just by the shape that they are beautiful to watch.
Nice that Apollo and Snow get along so well.

I always feel privileged when I see the Kites! They fly with such effortless beauty. A pair nest somewhere near me and I will see them regularly through the breeding season as they hunt for food. Most years I see the parents and offspring shortly flying together before they head back to South America for the rest of the year.

The pictures of the Kites are wonderful DT! Have you had Apollo a long time? I don't recall seeing him in the family pictures before. Darling shot of him and Snow.

My cousin in PA sent me this picture which he took in his back yard. A tailless squirrel!

I wonder if the squirrel had a close encounter or if he was born that way. I used to have a squirrel in my yard with a 2" tail and always suspected he had lost part of it to a dog or cat (or even a hawk, I suppose).

That's what I wonder. For a squirrel, a tail is like a cat's tail, used for balance. I guess he's learned to survive.

Oh, El Sordo, you could have given me warning! Snakes! I'm in complete agreement with Indiana Jones where they are concerned! Still, he has lovely coloring.

One of the local museums has a ball python. Not a biter but a hugger, eh? He does have lovely coloration.

Thanks ladies. He really is a sweetheart. He had just shed last night and is really looking good. I really try and take great care of him. When he hatched ( a friend of mine owns his mom) he was around 9 inches and is a little over 2 ft now. he will only get to be about 3 and 1/2 feet long, he is a male and they stay smaller.

Whoa! Didn't see him coming. As they've said, Chubby is a beautiful boa. Very handsome patterning and he is nice and plump isn't he? Do he appear with you in any of your shows?

nice ...I like spiders and snakes. you would think he would enjoy surfing the WEB.... I don't use any animals in my shows. I did use pythons and rabbits in them when I was a kid, but found (just like here) most folks are creeped out by snakes. hiss hiss.

When we had the EQ in 1989, some of us staff went back into our buildings on the UCSC campus to help clean up a couple of days later--and found tarantulas wandering around the first floor. They had been dislodged/disoriented by the quakes apparently. They usually stay in the surrounding woods, sight unseen.
