Once more, I know the feeling. I just made Brandy get off my lap so I could come to the computer. I'm mean that way. Thing is, with her, I can go back to the sofa in 15 minutes and she'll take up right where she left off!

Artemoose...LOL You sure pulled a number on those kids ;D The daughter who did not want me to name the kitty after Artie finally figured out that Marty is for Ross Martin. So yeah, she got mad at me. We also call the kitty Smarty Marty. I had every intention of naming my next kitty after Artemus, but she came already named Darla. I LOVED the name, so it stuck

My niece works for a PR firm in Los Angeles, and recently one of their reps went to Australia to consult with a client. He sent these pictures to her.

Those of you who have known me for a while may remember that I had a German Shepherd that I lost to cancer nearly 3 years ago. Well, on Sunday a new boy joined my family. Apollo will be 2 yrs in January and when he came into rescue he weighed 53 lbs! He is now around 70 lbs and still has another 10 - 15 to put on to be a normal weight. He is very tall as you can kind of tell from the pictures. Things have been a bit bumpy, but everyone is beginning to settle in.

Apollo is a beauty, and indeed very tall. Hope he and the others settle in. It can take time sometimes. Lucky fellow!

DT, those are the handsomest three dogs I think I've ever seen! I'll bet no one tries to get into your place without permission! Herding dogs (which I admit are my favorite type) are so protective of their owners and owner's property. What beautiful conformation all three have, as well!
I just can't help feeling a bit jealous, but you deserve the joy those fellas must bring into your life.

Joyous news on my front - Lily Fortune has come to live with us! She is just an incredible love. She and Artemus are still in the hissing stage, and he avoids her, but when she can't see him he watches her with a very kindly look on his face. She spent last night lose in the apartment while Arte stayed on the bed with me, like he always does. I think she slept on top of my armchair. He's so funny, because he lets me pet him and rub his face, then remembers he's mad at me and hisses! Lily is spending today in the fully outfitted bathroom 'isolation' room. They can reach under the door to play some, but she can be safe and he'll get curious. I know his gentle good nature will win out over jealousy soon. I keep reminding him how much I love him. I had to quote myself on this so I could show how things have changed in just a few short weeks.
Notice his truncated tail curling around the back of her head. He loves his kitten.
He puts up with her ambushing him all the time - no, I swear he encourages it! He loves to play with her.

Aww!
It often just takes a while for them to establish their positions in the pecking order about various activities and things. I never had an adult cat that rejected a kitten.

Regarding your last sentence there, Cal Gal, this morning I woke up with a kitty pile sleeping behind my knees. I assumed it was the three orphan kitties until I turned the light on. Turned out, it was two of the babies, plus one of the older cats. Still later, the third kitten joined the group, and the older cat was grooming them! Awwwwww.....

These two, I suspect, like to do most of their cuddling on the bed with me with the lights out. My hand regularly find a suspicious bundle of warmth. I have seen Atremus give Lily a friendly face scrub in the midst of playing.

Seriously, though, that is one thing I would not expect from a tom toward a kitten not his own. Hmm. Is he a strictly indoor cat?

Yes, although he does manage on occasion to zip out the door under foot.

Yes, although he does manage on occasion to zip out the door under foot. Well, maybe he's never had his 'reproductive mandate' instinct activated, so he doesn't automatically want to destroy young not his own. I like the thought that he's just a superior male better, though.

Well, he's also a very young male; I would have to ask the kids, but I think he was born last May.
Btw, he wasn't lying down but both he and the tiny were sitting on their haunches. But she was nosing into his belly.

Love the sea turtle! Great shots, are they recent? I remember visiting that beach ages ago when we were there, didn't see any turtles but found a live starfish. The bottoms of my feet peeled for weeks afterward...must be that tiny bits of volcanic glass imbedded in the skin. I didn't feel anything though.

Great pictures. I dig turtles (okay I dig most animals except primates and cockroaches) and those (or that one) ... just beautiful. That beach is awesome too!
I used to live in Corpus Christ, on the Gulf of Mexico, and I well remember the work being done to save the Kemps Ridley Sea Turtles (sp).

The turtle pictures are great. Though they nest around here, they only come on shore at night, consequently I have never seen them. We do have a turtle rehabilitation facility beach-side where you can see them. They are amazing creatures.

I have been meaning to post this picture for a while and keep forgetting. This is my niece's cat "Uti." (Don't ask where the name came from; I have no idea.) As you can see, he is a rather longhaired kitty! She caught him in a great pose.

This is one of my "outdoor kitties," one of several that come around for the food I put in a bowl out there. I think at least a couple of them are homeless, but I'm not so sure about this guy. He was a lanky adolescent when he first started showing up, was absent for a long while, and now as you can see he's a well fed mature kitty. I call him Tuffy because he just looks tough. And sassy. He gives me looks that can only be considered sassy, wiggling his tail as he does so. I took the picture through the patio door so it's not as clear as it might be. I had put a storage box out there on its side, with a small blanket in it, hoping to offer shelter to them, but he's the only one I've seen use it. You can see the spot of orange on his nose. There's another one elsewhere on him, but mostly he's tabby and white.

Oh yes. Cats are big gift givers. My outdoor cats don't seem too interested in the birds in my yard, possibly because I keep them well fed. There a big black and white tuxedo cat that can almost walk across the yards and the birds continue feeding (except the ones that were feeding on the ground, of course). They really pay little attention to him. I also have a smaller gray and white tabby that I am pretty sure is a female, and a very large gray tuxedo cat that come around. Gets interesting when more than one of the male cat shows up at the same time! I have no idea if any of them have actual homes, but I just don't like the idea that any are going hungry either. Plus having them well fed helps the birds too! If only I could convince the hawks to stay away!

Luckily for me my "gifts" are all of the felt and manmade variety. Everytime I go anywhere even if its just outside I come back and on my bed just below my pillow there will be a pile of assoryed mice in various states of destroyed mess Sometimes there will be a ball or two added to the pile.

EEEUUUUWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!Oh my god!!! like gag me with a kitty shovel!!! like barf me out!!!!! That's so warped and you have to clean up after Duke!!!!!! That's one of many reasons why cats aren't allowed in my room!!! Plus if I touch a cat I die You must really love your kitty and your kitty must really love you too. Pet ;D LOL Valley girl kitty? I'd like to think Duke likes his grandmommy and I'd like to keep him around a while longer. Sashia is highly allergic to Duke and he knows it. He will climb up on me and stare at her when she's sitting next to me at the computer and reach out with his paw and tap her. Or he gets on the desk between the keyboard and monitor and swishes her with his tail lol
