Just caught the last 10 minutes of this Bonanza episode. It's amazing how RM can project himself. Now at nearly 6 feet tall he isn't exactly short. Lorne Greene and Pernel Roberts aren't more that 2 or 3 inches taller. So how does RM manage to make himself look so much shorter? At the end, when he got up off the couch, LG and PR appeared to tower over him. Then as Lightning McCoy, he makes himself appear several inches taller. Amazing.

I read somewhere that he was quoted as saying "body language" was as important as his facial makeup for the various disguises. You can certainly see that in his various incarnations on WWW. As you say, as Lightnin' he was tall and slim and arrogant. As the "electrocutioner" in Bars of Hell he was slumped and smarmy. Same with the accountant in Undead. He had an amazing capacity for reinventing himself.

I love this ep of Bonanza, of course. I remember it from when I was a kid and Bonanza was my favorite show on during the day. Sigh...the good ol' days when I wanted to buy Alpo because Lorne Greene did the commercials. ;D
Ross was such an amazing actor, it's true. I especially like seeing him as Tony Alika because it is so different from other roles/disguises that he did. Even watching him do interviews, or listening to him (Marc Zicree's TZ interview) shows that Artemus Gordon wasn't the real RM, you know what I mean? I always pictured Ross as just like AG, and even though he had some similar traits, it's obvious that AG is another character that he brought to life...does any of that make sense?

yeah, I saw the episode only once, but wow, what an impression RM's acting made on me! That he's so versitile to create such different characters and make them each their own and unique
