I just think it's cool because it comes from Grant's line, not neccesarily that the picture itself is rare, just the personal ties that go along with the picture!

The watch story is very cool! As for the photo story, when I read it yesterday I was just coming off reading a novel about Grant as he wrote his memoirs just before his death. Jesse was mentioned at the end of the novel. Now I want to write to his Great Great Grandson!! I just might do that, too.

I had seen the one about the picture in the newspaper, but not the one about the watch. Great stories, great finds.
I too think it's particularly wonderful that the picture is in the hands of Grant's descendant. Be interesting to see how and why U.S. Grant obtained the photo.

I had heard the watch story on the news but today is the first I heard about the photo. Thanks Red for posting the link. In reading the article, did Morgan, the collector, say he bougght it from Grant in Feb. for $50K? I wouldn't have been able to part with it for any amount. Maybe Morgan will allow it to be displayed at the Smithsonian with the Lincoln collection there. He has other times.
