Hi everyone well I haven't been on here for almost a week due to not having any power. Monday the 20th at around 6:45 pm the National Weather Service issued a Tornado warning for my area, Marion County, Missouri and then at 7:15 they sirens started going off in the town where I live. Mom and I went to the basement and things turned nasty about 7:30 including the power going out. We had several big trees in our woods down and lost half of our old magnolia tree. Luckily no damage to the house and no loss of life in town. Although many houses and businesses in town did suffer damage. The National Weather Service first said it was straight line winds and then upgraded it to an F1 Tornado. Of course everyone is thankful that it was not like Oklahoma and my thoughts and prayers are with those affected there, especially the ones who lost children. Anyway, there were so many downed power lines and trees on the lines that Tuesday morning 80% of the town was without power and the schools closed for summer vacation a week early, not that the kids were complaining about that. The university where I work was heavily damaged, but the summer session is scheduled to go on as planned. So, the power was finally restored to our neighborhood at 5:15 pm yesterday.

Wow! Welcome back and thank the Lord that you are safe. I hope that the damage wasn't too severe from the storm, or the power outage. How did you survive the week without electricity?

Welcome back! You were missed. So glad it wasn't worse. Must have been terrifying though.

I agree with Apple's sentiments exactly, 1JamesWestFan.
Thank the Lord that you and your mother are safe and that you survived a real harrowing weather experience.
Good to have you back here.

Apple, in response to your question a week without electricity is no fun, okay the first day or two wasn't bad, but then it gets boring, no tv, no internet, no lights so you go to bed once it gets too dark to see to read. Luckily, we have a gas stove so at least we could cook. It certainly makes you appreciate the little things we don't always think about.

When I was a child, we lived in a home for a YEAR without electricity. My siblings and I didn't notice it so much but I'm sure mom did. In 1989 after the Loma Prieta earthquake, we were 4+ days without electricity. It does get boring after the first day! Especially going around and absentmindedly turning on light switches that don't work!
