I'm laughing at myself here because in at least one story I've written Jim as lecturing Artie [as a joke] to 'focus, Artemus, focus.'...
Well I need the gifted writing people's here gifted advice on that subject.
I have TOO many ideas! I'm once more not blocked per se in the writing as finding too many ideas that want to be in a story... only like those fanfic characters with a mind of their own, these ideas all want to be 'the star' of the story!
They should properly be in different stories... and I have a lonnnng list of story ideas they should take part in... But when I decide I'm going to get moving on one of these [hopefully] entertaining ideas the others demand my attention! Its like sitting in a kindergarten classroom, or maybe, since they are more literate than five year olds, a second or third grade classroom, where every single energetic little person wants your fullest attention!
Sigh.
So I'm here to ask if anyone has encountered this dilemma and if so, what you did to quiet the 'kids' down some. LOL
Obviously this is not hugely serious. But its frustrating. And it DOES have to do with Wild, Wild West, as most of these 'kids' are ideas for Jim and Artie stories... including one where I might or might not kill of our dear, dear Colonel Richmond! Sigh.
As you can see, I'm open to suggestions! Help!

My suggestion is to write whatever is in your head at any given time. You wouldn't believe how many word documents I have, each for a separate story idea, as well as a catch-all one. I usually only concentrate on two or three at a time, and finally on one as it gets close to completion.
But if you have a specific idea bouncing around in your head, write it down before it can get away. Maybe not all the stories will ever see the light of day, but it's better to have the ideas written than not, right?

I agree with Niecie. I also have a couple of dozen unfinished stories plus one file filled with plot bunnies. Right now I'm working on a story that occurred to me while I was working on another--and it wouldn't let me be, so I had to start it. So far it's going well. Only problem is time to work on it. But 2 others are waiting for me to get back to them because I've also had thoughts on their continuation while working on the other one! Sometimes I start a story and it just doesn't flow well. That's when I stop and go elsewhere. Then one day I go back and re-read that original story--and often come up with ideas to fix it and maybe even finish it! Good thing I don't have an editor breathing down my neck!

I know exactly what you mean, I had a Fan Story for another television programme which was wonderful, but another story broke in on that one and I had to write that before I could finish the first. I have two stories at the moment but my characters aren't doing what I want, and I have a real problem with one of them. Maybe I should just ask one of my contacts to read it through and if it doesn't scan well I can do a rewrite. I sympathise, especially when CalGal says that she has half a dozen stories on the go. I have too many ideas to write down. But I'll get there eventually....I hope! Double thank goodness I don't have an editor breathing down my neck!

That's all right. There are some Artie-centric stories too. They seem to have been written by people calling themselves Artie's Angels. ;D

Speaking as an absolute Artie nut, don't worry about it, tyche. Write what you want to write. As long as it's Wild Wild West, I for one will read it. ;D

As one of Artie's most ardent advocates, it doesn't bother me a tad to read Jim-centric stories. I can just make up in my own mind what Artie's doing in the meantime. Apples...Oranges - both tasty! We all have our preferences.
