I was in 9th grade, 14 years old. This is the end of a story that I wrote, intending it to be quite the saga about Artemus meeting the love of his life and this being the 'love at first sight' scene. It was part of my journal for english class, I wrote every time I was in study hall. It made the time pass very quickly. The beginning of the story is really a Little House on the Prairie fanfic (not what I intended, but hey...) but I didn't type that up. Remember that I was 14 and I just think it's hilarious...maybe my writing has changed? I hope? LOL!
A business meeting with Papa was as exciting as a her brother's stamp collection. Annie had to go to the Gordon's home with Papa, but without her brother. A butler answered the door and showed them into the study and told them Mr. Gordon would be along shortly. Annie sat on her father's lap. He held her close to him because he was so sorry about what he had done almost
a week ago. But when she had found out what it was, she told him she was glad it had snapped him out of his drinking.
Mr. Gordon came into the room. He and Forrestt were good friends. They had gone to college together. When he saw Annie he shook her hand and told her she looked just like her mama. Annie smiled. He was such a nice man. He offered her father a drink. Forrestt looked at his daughter's curled head and then said no.
All this time someone had been playing the violin and someone else the piano, beautifully. But out of the violin came a violent screech and then an explosion. Lawrence Gordon asked them to please excuse him and he went out into the hall, "Are you two all right?" he called.
A girl answered, "My stupid brother just made another goof in his formula that's all. We're all right daddy."
lawrence came back in smiling and explaining what had happened. "My son is an excellant violinist, and he also has a great interest in science." He was trying to set a violin to blow up with a bomb..." he looked down at the 10 year old Annie who was wide eyed with interest."Would you like to meet my children?" She nodded with enthusiasm. "Come along then, Annie you are
going to have quite a time."
As Lawrence Gordon led her upstairs to the music room Annie chandler was suddenly trying to decide if she really wanted to go. I mean, an exploding violin! The boy was only 14 years old, he must be nuts!
When they got to the music room it was a mess! The remains of a violin were scattered near the grand piano that looked so small in the large room. Amid the debris were two children, jennifer, about Annie's age, and a Artemus,
who was about Gerry's age. the both looked up from their cleaning when
their father entered.
"You two, this young lady you may or may not remember. She is the daughter of my friend Forrestt Chandler, Antoinette. Annie for short."
Jennifer went over to her and said hello. The girls remembered each other from California, but Artemus had not been in California with his family then. he mumbled hello to her and kept on with his work.
lawrence left the children. Jennifer took annie over to the piano, where she had been playing before the explosion. "Do you play?" she asked Annie.
Annie nodded and jennifer asked her to play something. annie squirmed. So much attention! She wasn't sure, but she saw Jennifer's pleading face and gave in. She started with Lilac Serenade, then went into her own creation. Artemus stared at her. She looked so pretty sitting there at the piano. He sighed. Annie thought it was because he didn't want her there. Or her
playing! She got up. "My father is probably ready to go, I'd better go back downstairs."
Jennifer said to come visit them again, and she told her she would. She had liked Jennifer since they played together in California. She also liked Artemus, with his dark brown eyes and wavy dark hair. She smiled at him and said goodbye to Jennifer. Then she went downstairs where Lawrence asked her if anything were wrong. "No nothing is wrong," she told him, and he believed her because of the smile on her face.
